Spencer Hawes
Position: C Age: 19 Height: 7'0 Weight: 245 School: Washington B- C C B- C+ A
Hawes has all the tools dreams are made of. He has a very skilled game for a 7 footer - he can shoot, pass, and defend. The 19 year old has plenty of upside and a ton of room to grow into his game. He is somewhat raw and still looking to completely find himself as a player, but his size and age combined with his unique skillset makes him one of the most intriguing players in this draft. Some feel he could end up one of the best players in the draft while others could see him as a career bench player.

Why is he C+ outside and Al Thornton is a C?

Because Spencer Hawes can stroke the trey ball and Al Thornton cannot. Also, I thought it made Hawes and interesting prospect with a unique grade set.

No, obviously it is not based on that because then the grades wouldn't make any sense. I look at every prospect's college stats and generally base their ratings off that, but other factors come into play and I also make small discretionary adjustments on my own. It is based on Hawes showing that he has NBA range, can get his shot off, and the ability to space the floor. It is based on Thornton showing that his skills didn't translate to the next level. As I mentioned in my previous post, I thought the C+ grade made Hawes into an interesting prospect who wasn't just cookie cutter and didn't fit the mold of everyone else entering the league. I think unique prospects are good for the sim league. It is fun to have different types of players in the league. Also, I am a big Hawes fan so he got the benefit of the doubt on that grade.
