2001 DRAFT BOARD
#1.
Magic Johnson
Age: 20
Height: 6'8"
Weight: 215
College: Michigan State
Position: PG/SG/PF
B B- B B+ C+ A
Magic will be #1 and that's all I'm going to say about that. Unless Odin bust him I think he can be a top 3 PG before his rookie contract ends.
#2.
Calvin Natt
Age: 22
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 220
College: Louisiana Monroe
Position: SF/PF
B B- C C B- A
Some would say this is a surprise but he does have the best offense grades in the draft. His defense is obviously suspect and could plague him his entire year. I'm willing to start a great scorer if he can compete for a scoring title. The B- rebounding is nice and could turn into a solid rebounding and scoring wing. With the lack of young players I wouldn't mind taking a rusk on someone with a low defensive grade.
#3.
Dave Greenwood
Age: 22
Height: 6'9"
Weight: 222
College: UCLA
Position: PF
B C- C- B B A
Greenwood has top 3 talent written all over him. When I see 3 B's in the import categories I Think Ewing I think Olujawon. It's a lot lower risk taking a guy that only needs to +6 to be a great player at an important position. He is without a doubt the best big man in this years draft. Look it up.
#4.
Sidney Moncrief
Age: 22
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 180
College: Arkansas
Position: SG
B- B- C+ B D A
The only reason I put Moncrief over Paxon is his +1 outside scoring. He is a bit undersized but a lot of the players playing SG currently are. Its really a toss up on which player the software boost at this point in the draft. The Software will Software and us tankers just hold our breathe the hours before their first TC. I like his B Defense and with Eric Gordon starting grades he could be a stud after a few solid TCs.
#5.
Jim Paxson
Age: 22
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 200
College: Dayton
Position: SG
B C+ C+ B D+ A
Paxson is arguably the best wing in this years draft class. I'm sure his solid B Inside has ANK cumming in his breaches if he gets lucky and lands a top 5 pick. Already being 22 and having C+ Outside scares me a bit but if his 1st TC is nice he should become a legit SG for someone.
#6.
Cliff T. Robinson
Age: 19
Height: 6'9"
Weight: 220
College: Southern Cal
Position: PF/C
B- D+ D+ C+ C+ A
I might be crazy but I truly believe Robinson is the 6th best prospect in this years draft. I would rather take a chance at a younger player I can watch develop and still be able to tank for a top 5 pick in 02. depending on how the lotto goes he could he end up being taken after the more polished big men get picked. He is a bit of a Wildcard at the moment but if your looking for a bigman and still re-building he is the next best thing after Greewood.
#7.
Greg Kelser
Age: 22
Height: 6'7"
Weight: 190
College: Michigan State
Position: SF
B- C+ C- C+ C A
Kelser is not the 7th best player on the board but could have the potential to be a top 5 player when its all said and done. At this point in the draft you have 2 choices. Draft a big man that will be a none scoring starter MLE or the opportunity to draft a high risk prospect that could be someone or nothing.
8.
Mark Eaton
Age: 22
Height: 7'4"
Weight: 275
College: UCLA
Position: C
C- D- D+ A- A- B
Pretty simple pick if your drafting towards the middle of the lotto imo. The guy is 22 pretty much the same age as the rest of the class and should be a starting defensive center for 10 years or more. I'm a firm believer the shittier inside grades the less the software will allow them to shoot. With that said if I'm a couple guys away I will gladly draft this guy or I would trade out and tank again next year.
9.
James Donaldson
Age: 23
Height: 7'2"
Weight: 275
College: Washington State
Position: C
C+ D D B+ B- A
Dump's new boyfriend butt buddy whatever he calls him should be a Celtic come next year. But in all seriousness he is a top 10 player in this years draft. He could go ahead of Eaton depending on some GMs lack of knowledge. Depending on Donaldson's potential he will always be a defensive first big man and should never be given points towards his inside scoring. At the 9th pick you could have worst, Donaldson can most likely play immediately on any team and that's a cheap 2 mil for 4 years.
10.
Bill Laimbeer
Age: 23
Height: 6'11"
Weight: 245
College: Notre Dame
Position: Center
C+ C C- B B B
I don't want to say this but Laimbeer is 10th on this years 01 Big Board. He has a possibility to start or be a bench player sometime in his career. His FT% should be around 80% and his D and Rebounding could imporve in a couple TCs and RC/TC points. I don't think he's a lost cause entirely he can be something down the road maybe better than an MLE type of big. After Laimbeer there isn't much talent left and I feel sorry for the other GMs with lotto picks.
