1. We have seen some long time gm’s in Soup and IanBoyd threaten to leave or just go missing in recent years. If you could only keep one of Soup or IanBoyd… who would it be and why?
Bankz: I think both can be annoying as hell but I would keep Ian. I love soup and if he left I could still text and communicate with him. Plus he is the better GM and in my division so fuck him.
Dilworth: I don't know. I don't want either to leave. They both do a ton for the league. I guess I would pick Soup because Ian is a more entertaining creature to observe.
Kn88: I'm glad neither one left. With that said, I'd keep Soup because I appreciate how he's helped me out over the sim years.
JHB: The league would be worse off with both of them gone because of the sheer amount of work they put into the proper maintenance of the board/sit. But since I have to choose, I'll keep Boyd because Soup is a tougher playoff opponent AAAAAYYYYOOOOOOOOOO
2. Have you ever reached your limit with being a GM? What made you want to bail? What kept you around?
Bankz: The only time I ever wanted to leave TMBSL because of actual sim league reasons was in 2.0, I really hated the Dirt/Soup leadership and the Jesus situation had me mentally checked out. If it wasn't for MJ draft coming up I would of left. Of course when I finally got MJ and was competing for a title the league ended. So fuck me right. I left at the start of 4.0 because of my newborn. I needed to take time for him and my wife. I also left on my 2nd run in 4.0 because of Dump. I think most know the situation no real need to go back into it. I probably should of just cooled down and ignored Dump because I really liked what I had brewing with my Colonels (now Raptors) but I think leaving was a blessing in disguise because it allowed the league to bring in Pete who is one of my favorite GM's in the league.
Dilworth: Yeah I've almost quit quite a few times. Nothing sim related has ever made me want to quit. Just irl stuff getting to busy. I stayed around because it really doesn't take much time/effort to be a serviceable GM. Everyone can spare 15 minutes a day to check/update things.
Kn88: Nope. I like all the GMs, and I enjoy the back and forth on shout. It's been a fun experience all the way around.
JHB: I was close this offseason after losing that Finals and then Boogie to an awful GM who will ruin his career. This is just too intriguing for me to put it down until I can win multiple titles (insert will be a GM forever joke). At some point I'll have to put it down because it will impede my ability to use my time on productive things but for now I'm all in.
3. Speaking of keeping GM’s, if you could fire one GM who would you pick? You cannot pick any of the following GM’s… Dump, RW, Devine or any of the new GM’s.
Bankz: I would probably fire JHB. He and I never have gotten along. I'm not sure why. I know I can be a drama king and stubborn but I never go out my way to piss any members of this board off outside of Dump. And I have big issues with Dump bringing up my wife and son in the past. Not so much now as I feel we are having a nice truce. But JHB is always being a dick to me. Even when others jump on my cause its fun and I always react I can later have a normal shout convo with them. JHB and I never seem to connect on any level. And since this is my round table I would like to fire a second GM. Dirty... And its because I'm still fucking sour over Jesus.
Dilworth: Tough questions. If I didn't have to then I wouldn't fire anyone because I think everyone is doing a really good job. If I had to pick someone it would be myself. Selfless.
Kn88: I wouldn't fire anyone. It's hard enough finding guys to take over teams. Plus all the guys left are pretty active, which is all I really care about. Making shit trades shouldn't factor into it. If I had to fire someone, I'd take the easy way out by firing myself and collecting sim unemployment checks :hillbilly:
JHB: If I'm going by league success in 4.0? Dirt. He's done nothing of note so far except establish the longest list of head-scratching trades. If I'm going by person I find it hardest to deal with? Bankz. We have some personal issues that haven't really been discussed on the board at all so probably no one knows about it but we can't seem to deal with each other well. I know, big surprise. If it's out of pure spite, fuck you MJ

4. Odin recently said with the improved prospects 20’s is making he would like to see more bust prospects in the top half of the draft. What do you think about this?
Bankz: I'm conflicted about this. On one hand it definitely may cause some teams to be shitty for longer then they wanted to. I remember drafting a few of Poe's lotto bust in 1.0 and being so pissed about it. It really set me back for years. But it's also more realistic and I do support that.
Dilworth: I think that's much more realistic with real life but very frustrating as a GM. I've had three lotto picks bust in my recent tanking (Iggy, Larry Sanders, Wes Johnson) and it really sets your franchise back. I understand why he's doing it but I don't really like it.
Kn88: I don't really mind, but I'm interested to see how it affect the '96 class. A bunch of guys will have strong grades going into that draft
JHB: I like the proposition of quality draft talent being available to good teams and I don't like inflation so it seems that having a few more busts at the top is the trade off. Maybe I would care if I was in a different phase with my team and I needed to count on a draft.
5. The next few drafts seem to be stacked. What prospect are you most excited about?
Bankz: I missed out on MJ. I missed out on DC. So I would say I can't wait for Scottie Pippen. The ultimate defender and one of the greatest to play in the NBA. I also want to see what happens with Muggsy. I remember talk about size playing a factor with the software and Muggsy is soooo small. I would also like to see what Odin does with Bossert. I know he wants to have more top of the draft guys bust so could you imagine if he made his baby a bust?
Dilworth: Probably Muggsy Bogues. Odin said he's goign to try to make him as good as he can. I would love to see a 5'3" PG dominate TMBSL. I really want to draft him.
Kn88: Durant. Those grades are scary good. Hope he ends up out west.
JHB: Scott Brooks. I don't think its possible to quantify the amount of veteran leadership he brings. Like that's literally not a part of the software.
Really though, Gary Bossert. Going to be really interesting to see how Odin makes him.
6. The league has recently announced a new form of improving players. How excited are you? What fears do you have?
Bankz: I think its awesome. I love bringing back a 1.0 game and turning it into a way of improving our rosters. I have wanted for some time a way to improve players without having to drop 2 hours into a article retread. I wish we could have some "rewards" for bad teams. Let the payouts be a quarter of what winning rewards pay. But something tankers can collect to eventually invest in the rookies they draft.
Dilworth: I think it's a great switch. Getting everything to casino dollars is definitely a system upgrade. My fear is that having to analyze each box score will cause a burnout to some GM's. I could definitely see that happening to me.
Kn88: I like it. I haven't paid as much attention to box scores as I should've in the past. This gives me a reason to.
JHB: I'm pumped. It gives a lot of incentive to be good or at least try to keep a star during a tank to accumulate achievements to cash in and develop young players. I'm all for proposals to make more teams try to hold on to talent. The west was more fun when there were 11 potential playoff teams. I'm excited to see the first mentor camp. If it's successful and we keep seeing this type of profile-making by 20's in the draft, 2nd round picks may become actual trade assets and not just throw-ins. As always, I'm worried about inflation but this system is good in that it severly limits bonus point opportunities.
7. The new system defiantly rewards winning teams and being competitive. Do you think this will slow down the amount of tankers you see every year?
Bankz: I think teams will tank when they can't win a title. So no it wont slow down the amount of tankers. Especially when you have some monster draft classes like we have coming up. What it may do is limit the "bare bones" rebuilds. Your going to sacrifice a lot of points by going Fason style with your tank. I actually prefer a "fason" style tank so I wont be seeing any rewards when I tank.
Dilworth: Lol "defiantly". I don't think it will slow down tanking. I can't really see someone choosing not to tank so they can get a few hundred more casino dollars.
Kn88: Not really. As long as the lotto system remains the same (team keep it the same), there's still incentive to tank. The interesting thing is that the bad teams weren't as bad as in previous years. We only had two teams end with single-digit wins last year. Let's hope that trend continues.
JHB: I don't think so. I think more people will try to tank with an established player so that they can still earn achievements and gain rewards. I think scorched earth tanks may fade away. But tanking is still too good a mechanism for resetting your team and collecting good assets for it to go away completely?
8. We have a bunch of new blood entering out league. Tell them the biggest mistake you made as a new GM and how you would do it differently.
Bankz: My biggest mistake was not understanding the ability of my roster. At the start of 1.0 I had a great young nucleus of players and after a couple of sims I thought I could compete for a tile that year and in the future. I spent 3 1st round picks on a good but not great SF. My team was no where close to competing for a title and 2 of those 3 1st round picks turned into lottery selections for another GM. I still sometimes struggle with the evaluation of my roster and I want to push all in and not be patient but if I could of gone back and done things over I would of allowed to the season to unfold more and been patient with my roster.
Dilworth: The biggest mistake I made as a young GM was rushing into stupid trades that I thought made me a contender when I actually had no clue how to evaluate sim talent. Get an experienced GM to be your mentor for the first few seasons so you don't screw stuff up because you inevitably will on your own.
Kn88: I traded 1.8 in '01 for the Mavs' '02 pick, which ended up being in the 20s. That was pretty stupid. If I could go back, I would've asked Soup for the Grizz pick, which ended up being 1.9 in a better draft.
JHB: Decided after a half-season I had a pretty good grasp of player valuations and started making trades while ignoring the advice of seasoned GM's. I ended up with a near-star player and a bunch of role players and little other assets. Fortunately, I was able to parlay that into 2.0 legend Andrew Bynum but it also kept me from putting the team around him I needed to win a title due to lack of flexibility.
But dammit if I didn't know them that I had gotten really good deals on Eric Bledsoe, Joe Alexander, and Akex Len.
9. Share with them the best piece of advice you received or learned during your run as a GM.
Bankz: A couple of things I would suggest is when you think you can't win a title then blow it up to dust. Gain as many future 1st round picks as possible and tank for a few years. Only bid on elite FA's in those off-seasons. If you can get your hands on a elite player keep him. Do all you can to build and re-tool around them.
Dilworth: Don't stay in limbo. Either build a contender or tank.
Kn88: I've noticed the new guys are bouncing ideas off the more experienced GMs, which is smart. I'd advise them to keep asking questions until they get a feel for how things work. Also, don't sign any of my free agents because they all suck. Thanks.
JHB: When planning your offense, go small or go home. 3-point shooters in this league are deadly accurate and it makes no sense to lean on scoring bigs shooting 45% when there are guys shooting that from 3. However, make sure your team can rebound and hold onto the ball or it won't matter how much more efficient you are because you're giving away possessions.
10. The new NBA season is under way… Tell me your WCF and ECF match-ups along with NBA Finals with the eventual Champion.
