3011 Draft Grades – Guards/Wings
*Note - the article below has been revised to remove age as a component of a player's draft grade. Please see [article forthcoming] for more information.
Using the widely available letter grades for each of the 3011 draft prospects, I’ve come up with a method of turning those letter grades into a draft grade for each prospect.
The basic methodology weighs each player’s grades for the attribute’s usefulness at that position (e.g., handles are more impactful for PGs than rebounding, while rebounding is more impactful for SFs than handles). The weighted grades are represented by a number between -5 (for horrendous shooting) to 11 (for awesome primary stats at a position). Most of the time a players gets a 0 or 1 in each attribute. Those weighted grades are summed and a bonus for potential is added (0 for C, 2 for B, and 4 for A).
Below are the point guards, shooting guards, and small forwards from this year’s class and a selection of notable draft picks from prior drafts to provide context for this list. If anyone wants to see a player's weighted grade - post his beginning grades and I'll reply with the results.
