Welcome to the 1st annual EFF Playoff Preview!!!!
East
1) Cavaliers (17.3)
8) Hawks (4.8)
I expect the inaugural MVP to rock dem Hawks. Cavs are almost triple in +/- EFF ratings and Lannier and Gilmore will show everyone why. Cavs win in a sweep, 4-0
4) Pacers (8.2)
5) Nets (3.9)
The closest +/- EFF match up in the East is shockingly enough the 4/5. But the Pacers are still double that of the Nets, I expect this difference to show over 7 games. Malone will stretch it out but the Pacers get it done in 6, 4-2
2) 76ers (19.8)
7) Bucks (7.3)
A fairly tough 7 seed IMO, besting the 5 seed in the East in +/- EFF. But the 76ers are no joke, they'll take the best +/- EFF in the East and run to a win, 4-1. Watch out for Tomjanovich to have good series
3) Pistons (12)
6) Heat (7.6)
37 PPG can do a lot of things, but can it win you a 1st round series to a team that is almost twice your +/- EFF? I believe it can, especially when the opponents starting PF is out for at least the 1st 5 games (not sure how the schedule works with days for playoffs). I'll take the Heat and Mr McAdoo to get it over surprisingly quickly. Heat win, 4-1
1) Cavaliers (17.3)
4) Pacers (8.2)
Great match up for the MVP in round 2, he'll dominate. That with Buse slowing down Wilkes will be enough to get this one over quickly, Cavs win 4-1
2) 76ers (19.8)
6) Heat (7.6)
Not as lucky here for the Heat, McAdoo has a good but not great match up with Brewer and Kareem in the paint. But on the other hand, Bonerwinkle will be dominated by Kareem IMO. I'll take the 76ers in 5
1) Cavaliers (17.3)
2) 76ers (19.8)
Great ECF match up here hopefully. Lanier, Kareem, Buse, Brown, Gilmore, so much fucking talent in this series. And it'll be a good one. The regular season went 3-1 to Cleveland, but I like the EFF from the 76ers and I have a funny feeling about Tomjanovich again so I'm taking the 76ers to win in 7.
West
1) Timberwolves (23.4)
8) Pelicans (1.6)
Best +/- EFF in the inaugural 4.0 season and expect them to play like it Wolves sweep 'em, 4-0
4) Jazz (16.9)
5) Rockets (13.1)
A very tight game here, Total +/- EFF in this game is 30, only 6.1 less than the ECF match up I've predicted. But that's what the wild west is in TMBSL. I like the Jazz and their late season moves, they win a close one in 6.
2) Trailblazers (9.9)
7) Grizzlies (9.4)
Great match up here, the 8/9 match up in +/- EFF. I like the home team here but it'll be a good series, 4-3 Blazers
3) Thunder (13.1)
6) Suns (7.4)
Tough to call this one when you look at the rosters. But the numbers don't lie, the Thunder tied for 2nd in wins this year and are 6th in +/-. I think they win in 5
1) Timberwolves (23.4)
4) Jazz (16.9)
Tough match up for the one seed. The 4th best team in +/- EFF vs the 1st. And despite the 6+ point advantage in the EFF rankings, I think the T'Wolves will be out gunned in this series and I don't know if their defense can hold up enough to win it. Jazzers in 6
2) Trailblazers (9.9)
3) Thunder (13.1)
Another controversy between standings and the +/- EFF ratings, but it's not surprising after a 2-2 split, each team going 1-1 at home. Even they couldn't decide who was better. Well they'll have up to 7 more chances to duke it out. I'll go with the Thunder here in 6
3) Thunder (13.1)
4) Jazz (16.9)
Not the match up I originally expected but I think it may happen. And I'm not sure it will be as great as the number say it will. Utah ran the table on the Thunder in the regular season. And again I go back to the Barry trade, I think he Gervin keep the train rolling. Jazz in 5.
The Finals
76ers (19.8)
Jazz (16.9)
The Finals, the reason we all play the game. And what a great match up this would be. Very contrasting styles, the 76ers play through Kareem in the paint, while the Jazz play though the dynamic duo of Gervin and Barry. I think it's a classic, 76ers in 7. Kareem the Dream leads them to the promise land.
