The Prokorov Report
3011 Eastern Conference GM Draft Grades
Each team's draft picks, the spot they were drafted, and their pre-draft Prokorov Report grade.
The Atlantic
Boston Celtics - B
The Celtics’ first year without a lottery pick and this haul shows it. Glen Davis is a safe pick to be a back-up big. Dump obviously wants to bolster his front court by adding Newley and Davis, both of whom look to be rotation players. (Glen Davis (1.15 - 8), Brad Newley (2.6 - 8), Anthony Tolliver (2.15 - 6))
Miami Heat – D
Too little, too late. This grade has more to do with the state of the franchise than picking Fernandez, whom the Prokorov Report likes as a mid-second round pick. Canes took a multi-season siesta on his franchise and all he has to show for it is Rudy Fernandez. Maybe the Heat can sign some washed up quasi-stars in the free agency. (Rudy Fernandez (2.12 - 9))
Brooklyn Nets - B+
B+ is a compromise. The haul for Reeves is D worthy, but turning those end-of-the-first-round picks into Acie Law and sending him overseas for development should pay dividends in the form of two additional lottery picks in 3012 and 3013, as well as a potential starting PG beginning in 3014. (Spencer Hawes (1.6 - 13), Acie Law (1.14 - 13), Josh McRoberts (1.23 - 10), DJ Strawberry (2.4 - 9))
New York Knicks – C
Needing to address his unimpressive backcourt, spl reached on Gray and Ayon. Reports were he was trying hard to move up in this talented draft, so the failure to pick up talent in the backcourt may have been due to his inability to move up in the draft. Dudley does look like a good player that should turn into a starter sooner rather than later. (Jared Dudley (1.25 - 9), Aaron Gray (2.17 - -3), Gustavo Ayon (2.25 - 0))
Orlando Magic – D+
Assuming they can resign Magic Johnson, the Magic don’t need much help, which is good because Joel Anthony is not going to be a good player in the league. His ceiling, and it’s almost certainly unattainable, is a rotational big man. (Joel Anthony (2.26 - 0))
Philadelphia 76ers – B+
Fason’s bad lottery luck was mitigated by 20s passing on Conley. While the Prokorov Report’s objective approach dislikes Gasol, this may be one of the prospects the Report overlooked. (Mike Conley (1.3 - 15), Marc Gasol (1.16 - 8))
Washington Bullets - Incomplete
The Central
Atlanta Hawks – B+
Tucker could be an instant impact player off the bench, which is the best the Hawks could do in the middle of the second round. (Alando Tucker (2.14 - 9), Carl Landry (2.22 - 5))
Charlotte Hornets – C+
There isn’t much to like or dislike with this haul. With grade inflation, rv earned himself a solid C+. (Wilson Chandler (1.21 - 8), Chris Richard (2.21 - 4))
Chicago Bulls – B+
Near the end of the second round Bruns picks up a player that could compete for minutes on a finals team. Perfect pick up for the Bulls here. (Coby Karl (2.19 - 5))
Cleveland Cavaliers - Incomplete
Detroit Pistons – A-
The last of the perceived “elite” big men, Noah may become the best of the bunch. Great value in the middle of the lottery. (Joakim Noah (1.7 - 13), JamesOn Curry (2.7 - 6))
Indiana Pacers – A+
Even with a deduction for luck, the Pacers earned an A+ here. Smartly delegating his draft responsibilities to Dilworth, the Pacers selected Smith and Stuckey, both the top players on the board at the time. Smith should prove to be an efficient big man and Stuckey’s versatility will make sure he has a significant role on this playoff team going forward. (Kevin Durant (1.1 - 14), Jason Smith (1.17 - 13), Rodney Stuckey (1.22 - 12))
Milwaukee Bucks – A-
Trofie’s approach seemed to be to draft the entire 3012 draft class, and he executed to near perfection. This haul of talent is full of versatile bigs, which is something Trofie knows a thing or two about. If he gets a few good TCs out of this group, Trofie may be on his way to building a juggernaut. (Thad Young (1.11 - 11), Nick Fazekas (1.12 - 11), Aaron Afflalo (1.13 - 12), Sean Williams (1.18 - 9), Jermareo Davidson (1.29 - 6), Brandan Wright (2.9 - 7), Stephane Lasme (2.11 - 3))
Toronto Raptors – B-
Brooks is a decent compliment to the Mayor, and Almond and Wright are average players at this point in the draft. Pistol could have done worse here. He could have done better, too. (Julian Wright (1.28 - 7), Aaron Brooks (2.1 - 9), Morris Almond (2.3 - 8))
