Hello everyone! I don't know how much general discontent there is with our draft process but I have quite a bit. No disrespect to anyone involved with running the current process. Here are the rules as stated in the OP:
...
Rules - Draft officially starts TBD
Round 1
30 minutes offline / 15 minutes online (Timer)
If your clock expires, forfeit pick.
Round 2
10 minutes offline / 5 minutes online (Timer)
If your clock expires, auto pick.
...
Which is all well and good, but they were not enforced in any way. Multiple people were given hours to enter their picks in both rounds. No finger pointing, but this meant that (1) the draft process dragged out for 66 hours when by rule it should have taken no more than 19 hours 20 minutes and (2) people who got their picks in in a timely manner were punished with auto picks because of other people who did not. In short, the current process is neither expedient nor fair; it is the worst of both worlds.
I have two alternative processes:
Alternative Process A
A post is made giving everyone 24 hours notice to submit a board of their draft preferences in order. GMs may submit as many or as few as they wish. When the 24 hours are up, the draft is performed entirely in accordance with those boards. No further GM input is involved under any circumstances. The draft itself should take no more than half an hour, it's simply a matter of the person running it reading the relevant GM's board and giving them their selection or voiding their pick.
Alternative Process B
A post is made giving everyone at least 24 hours notice of the draft's start time. GMs may submit a board of as many or as few names as they wish. When the draft occurs, GMs have 15 minutes to make a pick in the first round or 5 minutes to make a pick in the second round. If the GM is not online, the person running the draft will immediately consult the relevant board and make the pick as directed if possible. If no pick is made or the board is exhausted, the pick is voided.
I feel that either of these processes will reward people for participating and speed up the process, which I think are both worth incentivizing. We can fine-tune each process by deciding when a pick should be voided vs. autoed, but the general principle of NOTICE AND PREPARE is I think a big improvement over our current scheme of TBD AND WHATEVER.
