3013 Draft – The Prokorov Report, Mock Draft Edition
The Report is back. Back again. Prok’ies back, tell a friend.
Welcome readers to this year’s installment of the Prokorov Report. You might remember, as I’m sure the Nuggets and Nets GMs do, that the Prokorov Report rated Ray Allen the best available prospect (he was) and Marcus Camby an instant impact candidate (he’s anchoring the most-improved Pacers squad).
This year’s draft is high on potential, and very low on sure things. Coming off last year’s historic draft, with all-time high grades from the Report among a loaded class, the top of this year’s draft class is a total crap shoot. GMs will be forced to take accomplished upperclassmen with low upside, or risk the futures of their franchise on high risk, high reward teenagers.
Without further ado, I bring you this year’s Prokorov Report, Mock Draft edition.
1. Timberwolves
Myles Turner (PR Grade – 13)
b- c+ d+ b- b- a 19 6'11" 242
This roster is in shambles, with absolutely no assets to speak of. GM Boyd’s lust for the big man from Texas is well known, and we expect the Wolves to draft Turner with the first pick in the 3013 draft.
2. Warriors
Delon Wright ( PR Grade – 15)
b c+ b- b c b 23 6'5" 179
The Report’s top prospect, Wright is as good as they get. There is a little concern that he may lack the potential to become an elite point guard, but an enterprising GM could alleviate those concerns with a little scouting.
3. Nuggets
D’Angelo Russell (PR Grade – 13)
c b- b b- c- a 19 6'5" 175
Bankz’s glaring need is at point guard, and he takes a change on the long and athletic Russell. His inside scoring is a major concern, but the potential is there and with a few points Russell could be on his way to being the best player in this class.
4. Heat
Stanley Johnson (PR Grade – 12)
b c+ c- b- c+ a 19 6'8" 243
The Heat’s roster is a bare cupboard, and Johnson has the bulk to begin to fill it up. His scoring grades are elite for a 19 year old, and his size means he can play multiple positions in the league. He is the perfect asset for a rebuilding Heat squad.
5. Cavs
Jahlil Okafor (PR Grade – 13)
b+ d+ d+ b- b a 19 6'11" 272 C
Heels gets what may be the steal of this draft. Okafor is projected by some as a 1.1 prospect, and his traditional big man grades and inside scoring suggest he could live up to that billing. The Report is concerned about his mid-range game and high turnover rate, so he drops to 1.5 with the Cavs.
6. Grizz
Cliff Alexander (PR Grade – 12)
b c- d+ b b+ b 19 6'9" 254
In his first full year after blowing up his championship squad, Druce takes a PF for the future. While more guys are left with higher scouted potential, Druce has never been shy about taking the best player available regardless of their scouted potential.
7. Magic
Willie Cauley-Stein (PR Grade – 13)
c+ d+ c- a- b b 22 7'0" 244
After spending years holding down the pivot in Lexington, Willie is beloved in the hearts of the toothless rednecks of Kentucky, and he will soon be beloved by the toothless rednecks of Central Florida. Cauley-Stein will not replace Monroe, but will be a nice front-court make for Abdur-Rahim.
8. Nets
RJ Hunter (PR Grade – 12)
b- b c b- c- b 21 6'5" 180
Known fan of all things Indiana, Hebrew takes Hunter with the seventh pick in this draft. With Law returning from Russia and his young core getting another year of TCs, a high-scoring guard may be what the Nets need to get out of the draft lottery.
9. Pistons
Emmanuel Mudiay (PR Grade – 11)
b- c+ b- b- d+ a 19 6'5" 200
In desperate need of a PG to play along with the front court of Joakim Noah, Antoine Walker, and Andre Iguodala, the Pistons select Emmanuel Mudiay. Mudiay can be an instant impact guard with a half-way decent TC, and the Piston look to be a roster on the verge of making the playoffs.
10. Warriors via 76ers
Frank Kaminsky (PR Grade – 14)
b+ b- c c+ b c 22 7'0" 242
The Warriors make a high-floor pick in Kaminsky, which will pair well with the high-floor pick they made in Delon Wright. The big PF has elite scoring grades and may move to the wing in the sim league. The Report is concerned that his perimeter and drive defense will be too low to be a starter on the wing. Drafter beware.
11. Suns
Kelly Oubre (PR Grade – 11)
b- c+ c b- c+ a 19 6'6" 204
Ankly is looking for a running mate for Steve Nash, and has found his guy with the uber-athletic wing. Oubre’s scoring ability should complement Nash’s playing style, and his defensive ability will eliminate many of Nash’s defensive lapses.
12. 76ers via Jazz
Mario Hezonja (PR Grade – 11)
c+ c+ c+ c+ c+ a 20 6'8" 200
Without an obvious hole in their roster, Fason opts to take the most maliable prospect available. Hezonja’s height, length, and weakness-free grades make him the perfect sixth man for this very talented roster.
13. Bullets
Justin Anderson (PR Grade – 8)
b- b- c- b- c b 21 6'6" 222
With a very talented roster set-back into the lottery by injury, this pick is a luxury for the championship contending Bullets. While there are many higher-graded prospects on the board, kn88 picks a player capable of providing instant impact at a position of need.
