Traded-Bowie escapes Miami
and heads to Detroit
Miami- In a trade that came out of nowhere, the Miami Heat (6-42) have traded franchise center and leading scorer Sam Bowie to the Detroit Pistons for 35 year-old Bill Laimbeer and two future second round picks. Bowie has been on the block pretty much since he was acquired from the Clippers for the former face of the franchise Reggie King. GM Canesfan3234 when asked about the trade stated, "This was a trade that was needed. This team has been a disappointment all season and I am trying to shake things up a bit. We also were able to acquire some 2nd round picks that will go a long way to rebuilding this franchise."
Bowie leaves as this season's leading scorer, assist man, and rebounder. He consistently led the team in scoring and put up a few 20/20 games this year. While Bowie hasn't made an official comment about the deal, he did tweet a single word this afternoon, "FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!"
Scoonie Saperstein will now take over the role of team leader. "I'm looking forward to it man. People been doubting me too long. It's time for me to be an all star. Saperstein, is averaging 16 and 12 this season and those numbers should increase.
When asked for a comment about being traded to Miami, Laimbeer gave a stream of profanities that can not be printed in the Herald. Laimbeer will be moving into a starting role with the Heat after coming off the bench for most of the year in Detroit. He will provide strong defense and rebounding.
The embattled Heat GM has been under fire from fans since he was unable to retain prized PG Khalid Reeves after his rookie contract was up. Reeves bolted for the Nets and left a huge whole at the point guard position that Canes has struggled to fill since. After the departure of Reeves, a team that had championship aspirations began to crumble. Truck Robinson's injury issues and the quick aging of HoF'er Bob Lanier left the Heat with a lot of bad salary and little trade assets in order to improve the team.
When asked about the trade, coach Eric Splolestra said, "Bowie was the heart of our team. Even though he is a center, he was our PG on the court. It is going to be tough to replace his production, but this is an opportunity for Karl Towns to step up and show he can lead this team for the next 10 years. He's a great young talent and I am very excited to watch him grow."
New Leader- Towns will
be asked to take over the
scoring roll left behind by
the departed Bowie
The move while a long time coming, surprised many in the locker room. A player who asked to remain anonymous is not happy, "This is the second time management has cut us off at the knees. First it was King, then last year it was AI after just 2 weeks into the season. They didn't even give us a chance to build some chemistry. Just pulled the rug out from under us and look at AI now with the Bucks. This is a joke. I hope I am next."
Reaction on social media has been mixed, though it is clear some fans think the team is heading in the right direction.

Commisioner Odin Silver has yet to comment but this move is certain to raise some eyebrows in the commissioners office. It is clear that Canes has no interest in winning games right now and the accusations of tanking are only getting louder. "I don't listen to that crap. I am just trying to build this franchise the best way I know how. Bill is a good player who will help mentor Towns and Obekpa," said Canes.
The Heat continue on the season on day 76 and in a twist of fate will be facing Bowie and the Pistons. I am sure the entire city of Miami will be glued to their television for that one.
