"...the Jones fracture of the fifth metatarsal, which had shown significant healing previously, was now demonstrating signs of regression."
Durant first underwent surgery October 16th. He came back December 2nd, 47 days later (6.5 weeks). The Thunder swore up and down he wasn't being rushed back, and when he reinjured the same foot on December 18th he noted...
"But when you sprain an ankle with the injury I had, it puts more pressure on that side of the foot."
...and in another interview on December 26th, he bizarrely included...
Q: It's been announced as a mild ankle sprain, but now with you missing your fourth game people are getting a little concerned that maybe it's something more than a mild sprain. Do you feel like it's more than a mild sprain?
A: I mean, it hurts. I don't want to throw anybody under the bus. But it's not worse than what's happened before. It's not like I might have surgery or my foot is messed up. It's just I have a bad ankle sprain and it's the same foot that I had surgery on so it's kind of lingering over the top of the foot a little bit. So it's hurt.
When he had another surgery on February 22nd the Thunder swore up and down that it was totally unrelated...
"The good news is the fracture itself is healing excellently."
"The soreness that he’s experiencing is unrelated to the fracture."
"The prognosis of the initial injury continues to be very positive."
...and now by astonishing crazy coincidence, the original injury hasn't actually healed and requires another surgery.
.
Oklahoma City is a dumb, bull**** franchise. They were never going to challenge for a title with their seeding this year even if they rushed Durant back, they did so anyway, and now his career is at risk. Remember that in 1987 Kevin McHale made All-NBA First Team, then he hurt his foot and rushed back, then he never made another All-NBA team.
