Here are the top and bottom ten for NBA players to take 200 catch and shoot threes over the past two seasons combined:
The top is pretty much as expected, except for Eric Gordon and Paul George. I don't really care much for former Clippers backup PGs named Eric, but it turns out Gordon has always been a good shooter and this past year exploded to a 45% overall mark, 49% spotting up. George's % has also been good since his sophomore year, for him (and lots of other guys e.g. LeBron) it comes down to shot selection, it's just a more extreme split for him. Overall the past two years he's taken 342 spot up threes at 44% and 180 others (isolation, pick and roll, etc.) at a brisk 22%. Ouch!
The bottom is also pretty much as expected. The only real surprise I'd say is Thabo, who seemed to justify a three-and-D reputation by shooting 42% in 2012 and 2013 but his numbers have plummeted since, and the peripherals don't explain it either: he's being assisted on slightly more threes and taking slightly more from the corners the last two years. Strange stuff.
Reggie Jackson got a tough rap (read character assassination) coming out of OKC, so I thought I would point out that Westbrook shot 32% on spot ups, but he's not on this list because he only managed to get 127 up... out of 502. He shoots almost as bad in either scenario so you could try to justify it that way, or you could say he should just stop taking them in any scenario, or you could say he should practice the shot if he wants to take five a game.
edited to add: People say that what separates Curry is his ability to make 3s off the dribble. It turns out he shoots those 3s at 40%, so I'd say that's a big yes.
50.0% Kyle Korver
48.3% Stephen Curry
47.8% Eric Gordon
