Hello there. I'd like to thank Duc, RV, Canes, and Trofie for participating. Let's get started.
1. We’re about 3/4 of the way through the season. Has your team lived up to expectations thus far?
I didn't really have expectations this year and I'm actually pleased with the losing and the chances at another lottery pick to add with Pettit and Curry. I have attempted throughout the season to add big pieces but have fallen short each time but at this point I am ok with the losses pilling up and then making a move this offseason.
I expected my team to be much better actually. Clyde had a rough start to the beginning of the year and that really threw me off. I’m hoping he continues his recent climb and gets back to where he was with the Celtics. I then went with a weird DC that put him at SF to get both Scoonie and Harrison on the court at the same time…did not work out. The team is only a few games out of 1st in the division though so I think the time is still there to make a run. Being able to run Harrison at PG this season was huge and he definitely met the expectations before he was traded. Tex is someone that I think has a lot of growth still to happen and I’m excited to see where he goes. Overall, I think the team is much better than the record indicates. For some damn reason, they hate playing at home. 13-14 at home and 24-7 on the road. I’ve never seen anything like it.
No, My team went from the best in the East to middle of the pack. Team has been extremely disappointing this season. Just have to ride it out I guess.
Yes they have. Although the early start probably gave me some false expectations as I don't believe my team is as good as I though they were. Solid team in the future though.
Yes, my team has surpassed my expectations. I expected to be in the 4-6 range.
2. Give me your biggest surprise team and biggest disappointment of the first half.
Not really sure on biggest surprise so I guess I will say the Bullets and the consistency they have shown this season and adding Pierce like KN did was a great upgrade and gives him a real shot at a title. The biggest disappointment for me is the Hornets I figured after adding Clyde they would be at the top or damn close to the top of the East but things just haven't quite clicked yet although there is still time for it to happen.
Outside of my own team, I am really disappointed in the Nuggets. has talked them up consistently but they are just not that good. He’s made some moves recently so we’ll see what happens with them.
As for the biggest surprise, I think it’s got to be the Bullets. At some point, I have to stop doubting the man KN. He had 0 predictions to win the division title but here he sits on top of the East. Bledsoe is just unreal. I still wish that kn and I had been able to make a deal for Bledsoe and Wall when we signed them during the same free agency. I think he’s got another stud with Swift and someone that I am really interested to see what happens to this offseason. Turner was a great pickup that is giving him some solid minutes. Kn just knows what he is doing and I really like the squad he has built. #dcrising
Bullets are pretty surprising. I thought that team's window was closed, yet here they are at the top of the standings in the East. Kn88 has a shot to bring home a title this season. I already mentioned my team as disappointing, so I will pick another for this one. I'd say the raptors are the other disappointing team. They may have been a software wtf champ, but they shouldn't be the 8th seed.
Surprise would definitely be the bullets. I didn't think your team would be bad by any means but they are doing way better than expected imo. Team that has struggled? The Heat. They may not have been as good as people thought last year due to a down conference, but now that more teams are trying to win they are about where they should be.
Everyone already took the Bullets (I appreciate the kind words) so I'll say the Suns' start really surprised me. I knew they'd be good but hot damn. When I wrote these questions the most disappointing team was probably Charlotte, but since then rv made the move for Stanley and his squad has really taken off. Props to him.
3. What was your biggest move since last season? Explain why you made that move and if it’s paid off.
My biggest move was winning the lottery and getting the chance to draft Steph Curry. I made the move because I got lucky and it looks as though it will eventually pay off as long as I can add the needed pieces to go along with him and a very good big in Bob Pettit.
The Drexler trade obviously. Had an opportunity to pick up a top 2 SG in the league and also fuck with dumpasaurus rex a little bit. I’m not sure it’s quite paid off yet but give it time and I like my chances.
Biggest move was trading Juan for Sears. I knew I would have to resign him in the offseason so I went out and got a cost controlled player who has haw 2 back to back good TC's. Not a groundbreaking deal, but all my big deals were done last offseason.
My biggest move was probably trading the 2 cavs picks for 1.7 and I took Blair, other move to be considered was the 4 picks and players for Jermaine Oneal. That has really solidified my post duo until I get bored.
Trading for Jon Pierce was my biggest move. I needed a good big to solidify my front court.
4. Barring injuries, which teams do you think will make the finals? Who do you think will make noise in the playoffs?
I will pick the Bullets vs. Suns in the finals and I think the Hornets have a chance to make some noise if Clyde can start shooting a little better.
Before the season, I had 76ers vs. Suns and I think it’s going to stay that way. The Suns offense is just so good and that run they made to start the year was cool to see. I’m hoping they stay healthy and that they are getting their injuries out of the way now. I’d hate to see ank miss out on his title opportunity due to software. On the other side, I really like what the 76ers are again. I think it comes down to the Bullets and 76ers in the ECF but have to go with the City of Brotherly Love in that.
I would hope that my team could make a run in the playoffs. As stated before, they are road warriors so I’m not worried about that part of it. I really think the Stanley Robinson trade will be huge. It obviously hurts losing Michael Smith for the remainder of the year but Stanley is probably the top SF in the game.
In the West, it feels weird saying it after calling them a disappointment earlier but I like the Nugs. Especially after picking up Alvin. I’m really interested to see if actually does trade Boogie. I feel like he is the Rex Chapman of 4.0 but at the same time, it’s hard to trade such a good big. If certain things line up the right way, I would not be surprised to see celebrating another sim title on a podcast.
Gonna go Bucks and Suns. Suns are just a machine this year. East is very even 1-7, it could be anyone. (fully expect the raptors to end up in the finals again.)
The finals will be the Sixers and Suns. Suns winning it this year.
Sixers and Suns. Suns in 7.
5. Pick a player under 25 who you’d want to start your franchise with, then give me four guys under 30 to complete your starting 5.
I would pick Myles Turner to start my franchise with and then pair him with Curry, Stanley Johnson, Blake Griffin, and Bob Pettit.
Give me Myles Turner. I was tempted to take Starbury but I feel like we have a gluttony of awesome young PGs but no bigs on the same level as Turner under 25. Odin has a guy that will run this league for a number of years and to be able to just take that and build around it would be great.
PG: Stephon Marbury
SG: Aaron Harrison
SF: Georges Niang
PF: Myles Turner
C: David Robinson
Curry. those rookie grades are frightening. SG: Aaron Harrison SF: Rice PF: Turner C: Pettit
I'd roll with Marbury. He's 24 and an elite pg goes a long way. I roll out the rest of my roster based on future as well.
C- Blair
Pf- O'neal
SF- Niang
Sg- Bossert

I'd take Marbury for the same reasons as Trofie. This is a guard league, and he's going to be a beast for a long time.

NBA questions:
6. Did your team make the playoffs this year? What do they need to do to improve in the offseason?
Yes the Blazers made the playoff and it was rather disappointing because of injuries and the way they struggled down the stretch. This offseason will be a big one for them because of all the Free Agents on the team, including the best player in LaMarcus Aldridge. The biggest area needed to improve though is Damian Lillard's defense, he is absolutely terrible at that end and he needs to find a way to get better there. Also if we do bring everyone back which is what I'm hoping for, the bench must also improve but if CJ McCollum's last month were an indication of what is to come along with Meyers Leonard shooting ability it might be better just with a piece or 2.
I actually don’t have a true NBA team. I grew up a Pistons fan being that I was only 45 minutes outside of Detroit during the Chauncey years but really faded away from that when I moved to the south in 2004. I have become really intoxicated with this Wizards team here in DC though. They are so much fun to watch and I absolutely love Wall. I was never really a big fan of Pierce until this year but these playoffs made him into one of my favorite players in the league. Knowing that the tam does so much with the local school communities is also huge for me. My kids idolize these guys and I could not be happier that its players like Wall, Pierce, and Beal that they are looking up to rather than Gilbert Arenas. I know it’s jumping on the bandwagon but a fun hometown team is always something to root for. As far as improvement, Wittman is the #1 thing that needs to be changed in my eyes. I can’t tell you how many times I was blown away by his stupidity.
No, Heat had a dissapointing season regardless of all the injuries. However, it was a best case scenario as now they have a top 10 pick and will likely be sending Philly a bad non-lotto next year. Heat need to find a shooter. They were an awful 3pt shooting team last year.
I don't really have a team per say . I've always been a fan of players. Iverson obviously. But as far as teams I've watched probably 75% of the hawks games this year because I find them entertaining. They need to improve frontcourt depth.
Yes, the former Bullets made the playoffs. We were looking great until Wall's injury reminded us that we're DC sports fans and can't have nice things. We need to find some wing shooters this offseason. You can't go into next season with Rasaul Butler and Martell Webster as your backup wings and expect to do anything. We also need a stretch 4 because as Atlanta showed us, you can't play two traditional bigs in today's NBA. Also, fuck Nene.
7. Which team disappointed you the most this postseason? Which team will fall off next season?
Well the Blazers but that was selfishly beyond that I would say that the Bulls probably disappointed me the most. They faced a severely undermanned team in Cleveland with Love out and Irving very hobbled and got torched by Dellavedova in a close out game. I'm not sure if it was the injury from the 1st round but Mirotic just wasn't the same and Noah has been very bad compared to his All-NBA level just a season ago. As for the team I think will fall off next season and this is so tough to judge right now with all the offseason left but, The Mavs could be out of the playoffs if they don't make some big changes especially if Monta does opt out and goes else where. Also, I think Toronto will be a much different roster next year and I don't think they will be any where close to the type of record they had this season.
I think it’s about time for the Spurs to fall away. The West is so good and if Duncan does retire, then bye bye to their playoffs streak. Even if he comes back, I am not sure that I see them making the playoffs in such a loaded conference.
Portland, I know LMA was playing hurt, but I didn't expect them to get their ass kicked by Houston. I think the Spurs run is over. They put it all into winning the title last season and I don't think the older guys have it in them to make another title run.
The most disappointing team this postseason would probably be the Raptors. They were strong defensively the whole year and really struggled to do anything against the Wizards.
It's hard to call the Clippers a disappointment after that amazing first round series, but losing after being leading 3-1 and being up 20 in the 4th on your home court against a team missing their PG and second-best big is inexcusable imo. The Bulls were disappointing as well. I think the Raptors fall off next year. I hope LaMarcus stays in Portland because I like them and want to see what the Lillard/Afflalo/Matthews/Aldridge lineup can do. They're obviously fucked if he leaves.
8. Give me your conference finals and finals picks.
I think both the Warriors and Hawks win in 6 and 7 games respectively. In the Finals I think the Warriors will win in 6.
Warriors over Cavs in 6.
Warriors in 6 Cavs in 5 Warriors over Cavs in 6
Hawks win the East and Golden State wins the West. Gs in 6
Cavs in 5. I just watched Atlanta for six games and came away unimpressed. I'll be salty over that series for a long time. Warriors over Houston in 5. Warriors over Cavs in 5.
9. Which prospect in the draft would you take first?
I'm not a huge Towns fan and I think Okafor will have a very good offensive game but will struggle on D. At this point, not knowing a ton about the prospects, I would take Winslow #1. I think he will have the ability to guard multiple positions on the court and be a game changer in that aspect and has an offensive game that can develop and be pretty dynamic.
I understand the hype around KAT but I’ve got Okafor as my #1 guy. I know it’s chalk but when you have a big like that available, you have to go for it. With the Wolves having the #1 odds, I’d love to see them pair him up with Wiggins.
I’d go KAT at 2 and Russell at 3.
I also am in love with Justise Winslow. He was so much fun to watch as the year came to a close and having that sort of athletic defender is invaluable. The guy can shoot the trey and lock down that wing. In 5 years, I think he is the best player from the draft.
KAT. guy is much more polished right now.
I haven't kept up with this draft but off name you'd think Isiah Thomas. Although there are a couple of decent looking wings in this league and I think one of them would be guaranteed to be a star.
I'd take Towns over Okafor because he's more versatile offensively and much better defensively. I'm not as high on Russell and Winslow as most.
10. Since it’s the playoffs, pick your four best champions of the last 10 years and put them in a bracket. Who wins and why? Keep matchups in mind.
My 4 would be:
1. 2012 Heat vs. 4. 2014 Spurs
2. 2008 Celtics vs. 3. 2009 Lakers
I think that Heat team wins because of Lebron at his absolute peak to go along with Wade and Bosh.
1. 2014 Spurs vs. 4. 2009 Lakers
2. 2013 Heat vs. 3. 2008 Celtics
I don’t think that I can argue with this bracket too much. I’d have 2013 Heat over the 2013 Spurs though
1. 2012 Heat
2. 2013 Heat
3. 2006 Heat
4. who gives a shit
no really
1. 2012 Heat v. 4. 2009 Lakers
2. 2014 Spurs v. 3. 2013 Heat
2012 Heat v. 2014 Spurs
2014 Spurs win that 2014 spurs team was built to and dead set on destroying the Heat. assuming they bring the same motivation to this fictional matchup. Spurs win in 5 or 6.
14 spurs vs 12 Heat - Spurs
08 Celts vs 10 Lakers- Celts
Celts over Spurs.
1. '14 Spurs vs. 4. '09 Lakers - Spurs
2. '12 Heat vs. 3. '08 Celtics - Celtics
'08 Celtics over '14 Spurs. That team's defense was ridiculous.
Thanks for reading. Feel free to give us your top 4 champs bracket below.
