The Worst Contracts in the League in Dil's Opinion
Honorable Mentions/This could get ugly Clark
Eric Bledsoe PG 33 6'2'' 205 C+ A A- A C D
39.1 | 21.0 | 6.5 | 11.3 | 2.3 | 0.1 | 2.3 | .469 | .912 | .396 |
$20,000,000 $20,000,000 $20,000,000 $20,000,000
Bledsoe has been one of the best PGs in 4.0's history. He single handedly led many bullets teams to the playoffs and recently kn has does a great job of building around him. This was a great contract when it was originally given and it still could be if Bled doesn't regress anymore but I'm skeptical. His PPG went -10 from the season prior which is ridiculous and makes me think that it was a depth chart settings issue because that's not logical based on his grades. I'm more worried about the D potential and him being signed till he's 36.
Michael Redd SG 26 6'6'' 230 B- A- C+ A- C+ B
33.5 | 16.7 | 7.0 | 2.0 | 1.5 | 0.2 | 1.5 | .444 | .936 | .404 |
$13,750,000 $15,000,000 $16,250,000 $17,500,000 $18,750,000
Woof at this contract right now. The only reason Redd isn't much higher on this list is because he scored 21 PPG two seasons ago and he still has B potential. If he doesn't turn it around we could be looking at another Delon.
"The List"
10. Yi Jianlian C 28 7'0'' 253 B+ C C- A- A- C
30.6 | 13.7 | 10.7 | 1.4 | 0.9 | 2.6 | 1.4 | .434 | .814 | .000 |
$13,934,375 $14,929,688
Coming in at #10 is the Big Asian Persuasion. This contract isn't terrible since there's only two years left but don't you think you can get 14/10 at a mediocre FG% for far less than $14 mil? Terrible value here. Yi is slightly better than an MLE big.
9. Sarunas Marciulionis SF 32 6'5'' 200 B- B+ C+ B+ C C
2.5 | 2.5 | 0.5 | 0.0 | 0.0 | 0.0 | 0.0 | .667 | .000 | 1.000 |
$7,485,230 $8,109,000
Sarunas is another two year contract that isn't so bad. The reason he's higher than Yi is Sarunas is completely useless. Yi at least gives you some production. Sarunas is best kept on the bench due to his ~4.0 TO per game. A complete waste of $8 mil.
8. Ben Wallace C 29 6'9'' 240 C D- D A- A C
26.4 | 5.1 | 9.6 | 1.1 | 0.5 | 3.2 | 1.0 | .416 | .511 | .000 |
$10,000,000 $10,000,000 $10,000,000
Big Ben has been a little disappointing. This contract is just annoying. Yeah he'll get you some rebounds, yeah he'll get you some blocks, but he has to eat 10 mil of your cap per year. That's not a big deal if your team is set with baller shot callers and you don't need to make any moves but the Nets do not fall into that description and Ben falls into the category titled "He's okay but I'm not trading for him". So you're stuck and that's annoying.
7. Montrezl Harrell C 26 6'8'' 230 B+ D D A- A C
30.9 | 11.1 | 11.8 | 1.3 | 0.5 | 3.7 | 2.0 | .421 | .567 | .000 |
$10,000,000 $10,000,000 $10,000,000
Harrell is in the same boat as Wallace yet he is worse because he shoots more with awful percentages. He's the same player as Darryl Dawkins except Dawkins had the ability to go for 40 points a few times per season. You can find the same production for much cheaper every offseason.
6. Americas John-Lewis PF 33 7'0'' 240 B+ D+ C- B+ B+ D
36.9 | 20.3 | 11.3 | 1.9 | 0.4 | 3.3 | 1.4 | .473 | .658 | .000 |
$18,750,000 $20,625,000 $22,500,000
This is probably going to be one of the most controversial choices to be on the list. AJL has been a solid player for a long time and hasn't dropped off much at all. He produces points, rebounds, and blocks with a great FG%. The downside is that he's 33 with D potential and is getting paid ~$20 mil for the next three seasons. His B+ defense with high block numbers makes me think his actual defense is pretty bad. I think AJL could turn ugly pretty soon. I would not want this contract on my squad.
5. Walter McCarty PF 29 6'10'' 235 A- B- C- A- A- C
36.6 | 17.8 | 10.0 | 2.3 | 0.9 | 0.5 | 1.6 | .458 | .788 | .268 |
$17,187,500 $18,750,000 $20,312,500 $21,875,000
Yikes at the way this deal looks right now. His grades look great, his numbers aren't bad, but definitely not worth the back end of a full seven year max deal. The only reason he's not higher is because he has proven to be a consistent 20+ PPG scorer and his grades haven't regressed from that time so there is hope that he can get back to his former self. I'm pretty sure Duc played him at SF last season and his best position is PF so maybe Duc can find a team that will trade for him and put him in the post.
4. Catfish Cathasach C 36 6'9'' 280 C- C C A+ A D
29.1 | 3.3 | 11.3 | 1.7 | 0.8 | 3.4 | 1.0 | .446 | .911 | .000 |
$24,062,500 $26,250,000 $28,437,500 $30,625,000
Goodness gracious. Catfish has always been overrated imo. Yeah he's really good but he's never been a top 5 big man in the league. I know this contract was given with the assumption that he will retire before it's over, and he will, but wow does it suck to have $24 mil tied up in one guy that scores 3 PPG. A salary this big really contricts the flexibility of your roster unless you have a starter or two on their rookie deals.
3. Al Horford SF 29 6'10'' 260 A- C C+ A B+ C
36.1 | 19.0 | 10.0 | 3.0 | 1.1 | 1.2 | 2.2 | .497 | .845 | .250 |
$18,750,000 $20,312,500 $21,875,000
This one has been bad for a while. I don't know who gave him this contract to begin with. Buster? Anyways, Horford actually had a decent season but it doesn't make up for this contract. He gives you good defense, good rebounding, and decent scoring but he's non-existent from the 3-pt line (3/16 for his career) and you have to be named Larry Kenon to earn $20 mil at SF without making a three pointer.
2. Boogie Cousins C 33 7'0'' 295 B C D- B+ A C
31.2 | 17.5 | 11.7 | 1.0 | 0.6 | 1.8 | 1.3 | .456 | .852 | 1.000 |
$20,821,912 $21,446,569 $22,089,966
Boogie is going downhill. He had a rough TC last season and his numbers matched it. He's been one of the best low pots scorers in the league throughout his career but those days look to be over and he's not going to retire before this contract is over. This was a great salary for DC when he was 28 and putting up 26/14/3 at 47/90%. This is a terrible salary for DC when he's going to be 35 putting up 13/9/1 at 43%. We could all see this one coming but tbh the bad years at the end are probably worth the dominating years he had at the start of this contract. Contact Bankz with lotto pick offers for DC.
1. Delon Wright PG 29 6'5'' 189 B+ B A- A- C C
35.2 | 20.2 | 5.4 | 8.5 | 1.5 | 0.2 | 2.3 | .457 | .886 | .332 |
$15,625,000 $17,187,500 $18,750,000 $20,312,500 $21,875,000
I think we can all agree on this one. What a shame Delon turned out to be. It wasn't long ago that a young Delon averaged 25/10 for the up and coming Grizzlies. Druce handed him a truck full of cash and Delon decided to spend his free time buying crack for his old AAU teammates and hitting strippers instead of jumpers. This deal has a long way to go and a buyout appears to be a longshot.
Authors Note: I was actually very surprised while writing this article that we don't have worse contracts than this. A lot of these really aren't bad but I have a word minimum to meet ya feel me. It looks like our sim GM skills are evolving as a group. Great job guys.
