As most people know on here I'm a huge fan of Comedy Podcasts so I decided that I would compare GM's to comedians that I enjoy or not enjoy. Not all of these people are Stand-Up Comics obviously but they are all comedians. I compared them in not a uniform way but all the GM's remind me of the Comedian whether it is because of posting style, GM skill, or pretty much anything else. I hope you enjoy and are nice to me in the comments.
20s – Scott Aukerman
- If you have read a lot of TMB you would understand a lot of the way 20s posts there is in the same vain in which Aukerman is most successful as a comedian. It is a form of anti-comedy where they point out the most obvious of things in such a way that it is hilarious. 20s is in my opinion the best GM in the league right now so he also is compared with the Person I think is pretty much the funniest person there is, not quite #1 though and you will see where that goes soon. 20s is able to constantly put out contenders year after year, he is the most consistent GM there is and his ability to stay a top is impressive. Aukerman is the same way in his ability to put out his podcast, which is a weekly masterpiece. I think you of all people will view this the most as a great compliment.
Dil – Paul F. Tompkins
Paul F. Tompkins is another comedian who is near the top of the list when it comes to funniest person just like Dil is a GM who belongs near the top of the Best GM’s list. Dil has the ability to shape and twist his roster to constantly compete and he created a dynasty in this league at one point. As we have all become connected now everyone knows that Dil is a very handsome man and Paul F. Tompkins, while not nearly as handsome, is a very dapper man who only wears very nice 3 piece suits.
.
Buster – Chris Hardwick
- Chris Hardwick is very successful. He is all over the place hosting multiple shows on TV, hosting his own weekly podcast, he moderated a large number of panels at events like Comic-Con. Buster has been a very successful GM winning a lot of division titles and winning a lot of games over a good portion of time. With saying that though neither of them has done anything all that memorable. Hardwick is really of the moment twitter living comedian and has become king nerd but he doesn’t create something you can really point to and be like oh in 10 years I will remember this and might want to watch/listen to it like a lot of other comedians. Buster’s teams and maybe this is all me, but I don’t really remember a lot of his successful teams and what players specifically he had during those stretches of time. I do like Buster more than Hardwick though.
Dirt – Matt Besser
- Dirt is constantly moving and shaking up his roster, he has found great success with this form of team building as he has won some titles. There is no doubting, in my opinion, Dirt’s ability as a GM. The same can be said for Matt Besser he is a comedian who masters in improve. He is a creator of the UCB which is comedy improve group along with Amy Poelher and Matt Walsh. He is also the great at characters so he is also adapting to his situation like Dirt adapts to his. Dirt was another former commish so I tried to give him someone of influence in comedy which Besser is owning and running comedy clubs that allow for different types of shows outside of just stand-ups.
Druce – James Adomian
- Both of these 2 are very underrated. James Adomian is a lesser known comedian who is very funny he does a lot of great guest characters on shows like CBB and other such podcasts. He is great at impersonations with Tom Leykis being at the top of the list but some other great ones are Jesse Ventura, Bernie Sanders, and Gary Busey. Druce also is a very good GM who typically when rankings come out I typically seem to rate higher than most as he has won titles and put some very consistent teams together.
2poor – Adam Scott
- Adam Scott can be a sarcastic asshole who can be very cunty about certain things he likes, such as R.E.M. 2poor I believe would admit to being all of those things. I enjoy both 2poor and Adam Scott and think that they both can make high quality things in their respective fields. 2poor has created championship teams and would have had a 3-peat if not for Tyler, Adam Scott is a 50% piece of one of the funniest things ever made in his podcast with Scott Aukerman about U2. However they both have had some clunkers, 2poor disappeared on us for a while and it seemed as though he was just about done with the league and well Adam Scott did Piranha 3D.
Bankz - Marc Maron
- Marc Maron is a good comic but can be a bitter man who is quick to get on someone and start really getting into it with them. Bankz, while I don’t believe you are bitter, he is pretty quick to get into with other GMs whether in Shout or Threads. He is a lightning rod for the league which needs someone who at times will liven the place up a little bit. Another big time similarity is that Podcasting has changed the game for these two. Maron is now a much more accessible person that allows him to be heard by younger people and he now also has a TV show because of his podcast and he also just interviewed President Obama at his house. Bankz similarly has become very good as the podcast house and really found a nice outlet for himself in this league and it has made the league better since it has become a lot better. But, Maron and Bankz both love a good feud which will lead me to my next GM…
GBG – Kumail Nanjiani
- Kumail and a guest on Doug Love Movies one time that same show also happened to have Maron on as a guest. It ended up leading to quite the back and forth between the two comedians where they were constantly throwing jabs at each other but all of it seemed to be instigated by Maron. Much like GBG and Bankz, GBG is typically just firing back from the attacking Bankz. Now as for the other part of the Kumail comparison both of them have reached really high levels but people aren’t quite sure how much credit they really get for the success of their team. With GBG people aren’t sure how great of a GM he is yet because of Harrison while the same can be said for Kumail, who I find funny, but how strong is he because Silicon Valley is great but there is a lot more in play outside of him.
Yawn – Howard Kremer
- This was the toughest comparison for me. I finally fell on Kremer because he marches to the beat of his own drum be it with Dragon Boy Suede or Cutting his own hair with scissors and not just shaving it. Yawn is the same way when it comes to how he GM’s. He just does things a little different than everyone else. He is a very interesting person that is fun to talk to and doesn’t take himself too seriously.
Ocho – Matt Walsh
- Matt Walsh, as mentioned earlier, was really one of the pioneers of improv as one of the founding members of the UCB. He has had some success, especially lately being on VEEP, but he hasn’t had the same amount of success or be as popular as some of his other members of UCB. Matt Walsh is very funny on Veep and a lot of other things that he has done. Ocho is one of the original GM’s and has been around the league for a really long time like some of us other GM’s. He has also had his fair share of success winning a title at one point.
Ank – Jimmy Pardo
- Jimmy Pardo is great he has a great podcast that is a regular listen for me and he is always awesome on other shows he goes on. He is works with Conan a lot and is about to have a show that he hosts begin on TV, so he is very successful. There is one blemish to Jimmy Pardo however, and that is he can’t take any roles that force him to remember more than 3 lines as he often says. So he will never get a sitcom or be in a movie because of this. Ank is a great gm who constantly builds contenders; he has had one of the best back courts this league has seen. He is very active in the league and thinks outside the box in how he constructs his teams. There is a blemish though that Ank can’t seem to shake and much like Jimmy Pardo and his 3 lines, Ank has game 7’s.
Victor – Brendon Small
- I don’t know much about Brandon Small but he has 2 funny characters on CBB. I also don’t know much about Victor but he has 2 nice pieces on his team to start building around in Savage and Gay.
Soup – Andy Daly
- This spot belongs to both the best GM and the Funniest person. Soup no longer GMs but his reputation and track record show where he belongs on this list. He created a dynasty that was as consistent as they come in this league. It was an impressive feat. Andy Daly as well is an amazing comedian who has the ability to be quick witted as well as the ability to improvise as well as any. He is also the creator of many characters that are hilarious and his ability to use them makes his appearances on Comedy Bang! Bang! all the better. Soup also has been known in the past to have the ability to do character work. He is the creator of changing his name and going into shout and conversing as the person he is pretending to be. Dating all the way back to the days of Dbl soup has been show his ability to have a great use of characters.
