Former Gamecock Downey enters the league already ahead of the curve defensively. He's the SEC all time steals leader and figures to be a lock down wing defender in the pros. But he isn't just a defensive specialist. Offensively he's got a well rounded game, it just needs some work. He doesn't really have a specialty but can take it to the hole or knock down the occasional jumper. Effort on the boards is lacking, but for what else he brings that's not a big deal. If he can improve offensively and find his niche, he could be a starter for a while.
