Good afternoon sim GMs. It's been a while since the last Cuban Report, for which we apologize. We've been pretty busy adding commas to our net worth - but now that we've got some free time we're back with another edition of our world infamous mock draft.
This year's draft is very top heavy with one of the all-time great big men in the shadows of the best PG never to play in the NBA. Without further ado, we bring you this year's Cuban Report Mock Draft. Enjoy!
1. Rockets – Darrell Floyd PG – 6’2” 180 22 (B- B B- C+ C B)
Needs – PG, SG, SF
Dil is talking a big game about not knowing what to do with this pick - but you don't spend 10k to create a prospect hoping to earn 1.1, earn 1.1, and not draft him. On the roster, Dil has got a nice set of bigs in Sene and Noe. Shawn Williams doesn't look great quite yet, but there is still time for the former Pacer and current sim-Rocket.
2. Wolves – Bill Russell C – 6’11” 240 22 (B- D+ D+ A- A C)
Needs - Everything
This team was gutted over the last season, returning a bevy of draft picks to
3. Pacers – Si Green PG – 6’2” 185 22 (B- C+ C+ B C A)
Needs – PG, SG
For having just completed a complete tear down of the roster, the Pacers look to be in good shape going forward. Aldrige is the real deal and Wallace should turn into a quality starting big man that blocks shots and hits FTs. Between Brickowski and the not-PG-eligible-anymore Sean Elliott, JW has got a couple of nice looking wings. While most people might pick the big man from Westeros at 1.3, this stew is missing a PG and the Report is SUPER high on Si Green, whose attributes appear to be in all the right places.
4. Clips – Gregor Clegane C – 7’1” 260 19 (B+ C- D+ B B B)
Needs – PG, SF, PF
It remains to be seen what Dirt does with Wes Matthews and Cliff Alexander, but even if he resigns them he should be able to tank for another year or two given the competitive nature of the league. Clegane is the no-brainer at this spot.
5. Grizz – Willie Nauls SF – 6’6” 230 22 (B- B C- C+ B- B)
Needs – PG, SG
The Grizz have got a strong front court anchored by Bryant Reeves, Tyrus Thomas, and Stephon Templeton. Bargs looks like he could be Reggie Miller v. 2.0, but I have a hunch Bargs's potential is a lot better. That said, Nauls could provide insurance for Druce in case Bargs jump shot/defense don't get TC love.
6. Thunder (via Nuggets) – Maurice Stokes PF – 6’8” 245 21 (B C- C B- B+ B)
Needs – are you serious?
Does anyone want to read a sim league obituary? I didn't think so. Moving on.
7. Celtics – Tom Gola SG – 6’6” 205 22 (B- C+ C- B- C+ B)
Needs – PG, SG
Mark Aguirre is the headliner on this Celtics crew, but Sheldon Williams, Antonio McDyess, and Kurt Thomas round out a quality front court in Boston. Dump has got the potential to tank another season or two and should avoid picking up a good PG for the time being. Gola looks to be the best wing left on the board.
8. Cavs – Dick Ricketts SF – 6’7” 245 21 (C- C- C- B B- A)
Needs – a new GM
I get that the east is competitive, but the Cavs failed to make the playoffs with AI, KG, Fazekas, and Pervis. The last thing the Cavs need is someone else to shoot the basketball. Ricketts is the best looking defense-only prospect in this draft. It'd be best if the new GM had a crystal ball (or dump bucks to pay for the check a prospect at another position reward) and could check him at PF/C, but he's still worth a shot.
9. Bulls – Walter Devlin SG – 6’6” 200 24 (C+ B- C+ C+ C+ B)
Needs – SG
With Durant, Chambers, and Ratliff locking down the front court and Dutch on the PG, the only need on this roster is at the wing. Lovelette should keep the SF position filled for the time being, so Bruns goes with the best SG available in Walter Devlin.
10. Bucks (via Bobcats) – Johnny McCarthy PG – 6’2” 190 22 (C+ B- C+ C+ C A)
Needs – FA luck.
This season Trof did what Trof does and traded his stars. He got a very nice looking prospect in Joe Smith and the hyper-efficient JJ Redick. Herb Williams has dropped off since his ROY campaign, but is still very young. There are a lot of ways he could go with this pick, but McCarthy is an interesting looking PG.
11. Clips (via Bulls) – Ron Sobieszczyk SG – 6’4” 190 22 (C+ C+ C B- C A)
Needs – PG, SF, PF
After picking up the Mountain earlier in this draft, Dirt turns his attention to the back court and nabs a very good looking SG.
12. Hawks – Bob Hopkins PF – 6’9” 215 22 (C+ C C+ B- B B)
Needs – SF
Isiah deserves better than RW. Kobe is clearly the weak link here and with Collier expiring, RW needs to add front court depth. Even if he brings Collier back, Hopkins can play PF/C and allow RW to move Frank back to SF.
13. Pacers (via Magic) – Al Ferrari SG – 6’4” 200 22 (C+ C+ C B- C A)
Needs – PG, SG
After addressing his PG need at 1.3, JW turns to SG and takes the best player (and name) available.
