All-NBA Players by WS Rank
PG: 2, 3, 8
SG: 2, x, 8 (Robinson would be 9th)
SF: x, x, 3 (Savage would be 1st and Snaps would be 3rd)
PF: 2, x, 5 (Turner would be 3rd)
C_: x, 1, x (Mullens would be 3rd but so would a bunch of other PFs)
Mass hysteria in the rankings this year, mostly from so many players playing out of position but also from a real changing of the guard as the Thunder core drops from "historically astonishing" to merely "elite but not dominant". The Win Shares for the All-NBA first team are (from PG to C) 13.5, 13.1, 14.2, 15.0, 15.5, so from a wide view it's not that bad. Turner has a very deserved beef with Selvy, but I feel like the voters have always hated Turner. The All-NBA 2nd team MVP is always a weird move, made moreso here for two reasons: Isiah was slightly better than Damon at 13.5 to 13.4, Damon had last year's true MVP on his team and so clearly had a better supporting cast... and Mike Conley was clearly better than both. I can understand the software having a team record component for MVP and therefore disqualifying members of both the 3 seed Hawks and 4 seed Heat, but how the h*ck does that beautiful man Quincy McCall get 3rd team over Conley? And how does Selvy get the undeserved bump to 1st team if the Heat's record is such a problem?
I'll tell you how.
Racism.
.
Deserved MVP was the justifiably maligned Kevin Garnett. I stand by everything I said about the guy, 39% from the field and <2 blocks from a center are horrible stats. Clearly he hit the gym and benefited greatly from Heebs's illegal shark antler velvet and of course from leaving the festering hellpit that is Cleveland Ohio. LeBron leaves Cleveland, wins two titles. Comes back to Cleveland, his two best teammates have freak injuries in the playoffs. Coincidence?
As the Thunder core ages away, it deserves repeating how thoroughly they've been screwed out of All-NBA nods, so thoroughly that I don't even have time tonight to count them all up. It's a d*rn shame, and I'd love to see them have a last hurrah run to the Finals and get stomped into paste by the New York Knicks.
