Good morning GMs!
Grab a cup of joe and enjoy the inaugural edition of the Cuban Report Power Rankings! The Contenders 1. Portland Trailblazers – The defending champs bring back their whole squad.
2. Philadelphia 76ers – the conference semi-finalists make a big move to land Shareef and rise to the top of the rankings.
3. Houston Rockets – Dil will go as far as Zinger carries the Rockets, and right now that it to a top 3 ranking in the Cuban Report Power Rankings.
4. Memphis Bobcats – Eastern conference champions deserve some respect to start the year.
5. Kansas City Kings – 20s is an elite PG away from being a legit championship contender, and he may have found that in Knight. It’s still another year or two.
6. Seattle Supersonics – The Yawnics are back in full force and deserve your respect.
7. Miami Heat – This may be the Heat’s swan song with this core. Like the Suns before them, the elite 1-3 hasn’t done a lot for canes.
8. Brooklyn Nets – Like the Kings, the Nets need a legit PG to be serious championship contenders.
The Pretenders
9. Phoenix Suns – Another great core lacking a PG. Moving on.
10. Vancouver Grizzlies – Rounding out the top 10 are the Grizz.
11. New York Knicks – It is time to see whether Eric’s emphasis on blocks can bring him to the promised land of the conference semi-finals.
12. Cleveland Cavaliers – Our big risers from last year, Shaun is cautiously optimistic at his chances in the east.
13. Oklahoma City Thunder – unlucky number 13. The Thunder will probably win the championship this year.
14. Toronto Raptors – The defense on this team is outstanding. It remains to be seen who will score the basketball.
15. Minnesota Timberwolves – This is the year the Wolves cannot tank any longer. They’ve got too much going in their favor to miss the playoffs.
16. Los Angeles Clippers – You there, dirt?
Playoffs? You kiddin me?
17. Denver Nuggets – The Nuggets may be a little low in these rankings, but they’ll have to prove they’ve got the chemistry to compete for a playoff spot.
18. Chicago Bulls – Bruns has some pieces, but not quite enough.
19. Boston Celtics – Dump, too, has a couple of pieces. Plus 38 year old Gary Bossert. Sorry, dump.
20. San Antonio Spurs – Victor has a nice looking core here. He’s still got a couple of pieces in Collier and Kemp, too.
21. Atlanta Hawks – This is a testament to how good Isiah still is.
22. Indiana Pacers – Two straight off seasons losing his starting front-court, and Jerry isn’t in great shape.
23. Golden State Warriors – While younger and with potential to improve, Green is an immediate step back from Shakur.
Trying Hard To Be Bad
24. Milwaukee Bucks – There is unlimited potential in Milwaukee, but it’ll take a couple of years to gel.
25. Washington Bullets -
26. Utah Jazz – Not a great defensive squad, the Jazz will be able to score points.
27. Charlotte Hornets – There is no great player on this squad, and all of the good ones have significant flaws.
28. Orlando Magic – #bankztank in Orlando
29. Los Angeles Lakers – Buster did a great job tearing it all down to rebuild. He doesn’t have much competition for 1.1

Was pleasantly surprised by my preseason. We will see if it holds Unfortunately you're in the same division as the Hornets, Pacers, and Bulls. May the odds be in your favor, though.

(A little after) Midseason Update
The Contenders
1. (2.) Philadelphia 76ers – Have got to be the favorites to win the title. Talented starting line-up that plays D and shoots the 3.
2. (14.) Toronto Raptors – We don’t even know if Zuckerman is a Jewish name, but the Raptors have got one hell of a PG in Templeton.
3. (9.) Phoenix Suns – Not sure if this team is actually good, or the West is just this bad.
4. (1.) Portland Trailblazers – We didn’t anticipate the Blazers sticking around at 1.
5. (3.) Houston Rockets – Still think very highly of this squad. Not sure why they’re not coming together in the standings.
6. (4.) Memphis Bobcats – We expected the Bobcats to fall further than this. The KD trade should help them in the short term. We wouldn’t be surprised if they wound up representing the East again in the Finals.
7. (5.) Kansas City Kings – Should have traded for Templeton.
8. (8.) Brooklyn Nets – Should have traded for Templeton.
The Pretenders
9. (22.) Indiana Pacers – Who needs to retain their stars in FA? JW does. If he loses Cousy, it’s over in Indiana.
10. (10.) Vancouver Grizzlies – Rounding out the top 10 are the Grizz, again.
11. (12.) Cleveland Cavaliers – Creeping on the East, Shaun has got a nucleus here that Gavin Belson never could develop.
12. (6.) Seattle Supersonics – Now THESE are your father’s Yawnics. We all knew it couldn’t last forever.
13. (7.) Miami Heat – Unless Jesus sees his shadow on third third day of Lent, it’s going to be a long winter in Miami. Or something.
t-14. (11.) New York Knicks – One of these teams is making the playoffs.
t-14. Chicago Bulls – Bruns has some pieces, but not quite enough.
16. (15.) Minnesota Timberwolves – We didn’t move the Wolves up because we’re late for dinner and we’re not renumbering this list.
Playoffs? You kiddin me?
17. (21.) Atlanta Hawks – Could probably make the playoffs with Rondo.
18. (20.) San Antonio Spurs – God the West is horrible.
19. (17.) Denver Nuggets – We wanted to move them up, but not sure they’re ready yet.
20. (23.) Golden State Warriors – Traded Stackhouse; moved into the playoff hunt.
21. (19.) Boston Celtics – Did dump really think he could get sim Dump for Aguirre? LOL!
22. (16.) Los Angeles Clippers – This is one of those times when you hate to be right.
Trying Hard To Be Bad
23. (24.) Milwaukee Bucks – Someone should trade for Kenny Anderson.
24. (13.) Oklahoma City Thunder – Nice tear down, GBG.
25. (25.) Washington Bullets -
26. (26.) Utah Jazz – The core here could be really good with a few years of seasoning.
27. (27.) Charlotte Hornets – I couldn’t name a player on this squad.
28. (28.) Orlando Magic – Not even Bankz was trading 1.2 before the ASG of his rookie season. C’mon, man!
29. (29.) Los Angeles Lakers – Keep it up, Buster.
