I am going to do a version of the Most Important Games ever series for movies. This is a preliminary post.

I think Most Important Movies is a bad idea. To me it's between Best Movies and Greatest Movies, and I think Best Movies is the most productive topic. Thoughts on this are appreciated.

In general I want people to list out movies for whatever topic they think is appropriate. Ranking is acceptable but not required. Please restrict yourself to twenty as an absolute max. After a week I'll parse the results and if there's interest we'll go from there. I'll get the ball rolling.

I have seen There Will Be Blood and the Island. If someone hadn't watched either I would very strongly recommend There Will Be Blood, but if someone said "hey let's watch a movie and those are your only two choices", I would choose the Island 10 times out of 10. I think that should count for something.

I think what I'll do is any movie mentioned by more than X people will get an automatic bye, and we'll have a play in for the rest where people can (but don't have to) select up to Y movies, and any that get above Z votes advance. (Might do two levels of byes.)

Then we'll have W rounds of every movie involved, and a movie has to be in the top V% every time.
