With the 3027 Draft fast approaching and the Magic once again a centerpiece of the lottery discussion, I have decided to publish my Big Board in advance of the draft. With this class, I think you have three can't miss prospects, three all-NBA potential guys who just need a good GM to develop their weaknesses, a handful of solid prospects, and then just a bunch of disappointing bullshit. This has been quite the year for profile players with terrible gradesets. So without further ado, here is The Simmigan Report!
1.
Joel Embiid
19
C
7'
250
Kansas
B+ C- D+ B+ B A
While irl Embiid has been a major disappointment due to lingering, chronic injuries, Joel Simbiid is poised to deliver upon the generational potential of his real life counterpart. His starting gradeset alone would earn him consideration for playing time on most teams, and I expect with some seasoning and development he will become one of the best two-way big men in TMBSL. The sky is the limit for this prospect.
2. Dante Exum
19
PG
6'6
190
Australia
B C+ B- B- C- A
Dante Exum is at #2 for me because he is a throwback to the tall, long PGs like Livingston that dominated 2.0 and haven't really stuck in 4.0. Fortunately for the future GM of this prospect, he has the size AND grades to dominate the position for years to come.
3. Andrew Wiggins
19
SG
6'8
200
Kansas
B B- C- B C A
In most draft classes, I'd be ecstatic to grab a player of Wiggins' caliber with the number one pick. Fortunately for the GM picking at #3 this year, I think he may still be available. With the potential to be a 6'9" 220 lb shooting guard by the end of his rookie contract, Wiggins projects to score inside and out while playing above average to elite defense. He has 1st Team All-League potential for sure.
4. Jabari Parker
19
SF/PF
6'8
235
Duke
B B- C- B- C+ A
Parker just misses being in the ballpark of Embiid, Exum, and Wiggins, and he's certainly an outstanding consolation prize for missing on the top three prospects. Parker projects to be an outstanding scorer at the 3 or 4 but he will need a GM willing to invest in developing him to stick at the 4 or become an elite defensive 3 which is why I think he slots one spot lower than Wiggins in the draft.
5. Aaron Gordon
19
PF
6'9
220
Arizona
B D+ C B B- A
Gordon may have as high a ceiling as any player in this draft IF he falls to a GM with the patience and dump bank to pour development points into his outside scoring game. Hopefully a heavy early investment from his GM will get him up to the C/C+ range where it will begin to develop more naturally through TC. If that happens, watch out. He may become the best player in his class. If he goes to a GM who doesn't develop him, he may just become an average 4 in this league whose scoring inefficiency caps his potential.
6. Julius Randle
20
PF
6'9
250
Kentucky
B+ C- D C+ B- A
Randle projects to be an absolute wrecking ball on the low block. He should be the type of forward who bullies his opponents out of the way for rebounds and baskets. I think he will need some major work on his shot blocks and steals to have the type of defensive numbers GMs are seeking however. Hopefully he goes to a GM who can make it happen.
7.Dario Saric
20
SF/PF
6'10
230
Croatia
B C C- C+ B- A
I originally had Saric lower on my list but moved him up to 7 in honor of his 2.0 counterparts' reign of terror as best player in the league on a 7 year, 7 millionper contract. He has the look of an average prospect but never count out the team of Soup and Sario.
8. Doug McDermott
23
SF
6'8
225
Creighton
B- A- C- C C B
Dougie has elite offensive grades, no question about it. If he has any TC boost and a GM committed to investing in his defense, he could be an All-star.
9. Nik Stauskas
21
SG
6'6
205
Michigan
C+ A- C C+ C- B
Stauskas is a lot like a recent prospect - Jimmer Fredette - who has been low-key excellent for the Hornets. While the D is lower than you'd like for a top prospect, I think the potential for a super-efficient scorer, even if he's just a super sub is worth making the pick here.
10. Noah Vonleh
Not an extremely intriguing prospect but he has what you want in a big to go with solid measurable a and A potential.
11. Mitch McGary
Three B- or better grades gives Simple Mitch the nods as a late lottery prospect for the Simmigan report. Solid, if unspectacular, much like his irl counterpart.
12. Elfrid Payton
One of two point guards in this class whose talents are criminally unappreciated by Draftmaster Druce. Size and potential is still intriguing though.
13. PJ Hairston
Nothing groundbreaking here, but he's not far off of the grades of last year's #3 pick, OJ Mayo. Should be a solid scorer.
14. Jusuf Nurkic
Here is our token defense/rebounding big to round out the Lottery Big Board. Thanks for reading!
