in my opinion
Abstract: This could be a very deep FA class depending on who resigns. It is extremely SG and SF heavy. There are very few post players, an average amount of PG's, and an excess of wings.
Center:
1. Billy Paultz 6'11'' 250 30 B+ A- C A B C Hornets
- Paultz is off to hit hottest start yet on a newly elite Hornets team. He's averaging 27/13/3/2 at 52% FG. Those numbers could drop a little but it's not too far off from his career averages to stick. He's getting to be on the older side of the coin but you can't deny his production. Guy is a beast.
2. Marvin Webster 7'1'' 245 26 A- C- C- A+ A B Cavaliers
- Ole Marvin had a very nice TC. Those big man grade of A- A+ A are on par with the elite post players in the league. This is his season to show if he can put up the numbers to match. Right now he's at 21/11/2.5 but at only 37%. If he can raise that to 44% while still getting plenty of shots he could be looking at 25+ PPG and a max contract. He is very close to overtaking Paultz for the top spot on this list.
3. Theodosios Cathasach 6'8'' 280 19 C- C C A- B A Mavericks
- Very interesting player. Short and fat but he gets it done. I'm not sure if this guy has had +1 inch added to him yet but he needs it if he hasn't gotten it. So far he's putting up 4/9/2.4 in 26 MPG for Soup. He's shooting an astounding 93% FT. I like this guy a lot. Only 19 years old with A- defense and A potential. This could be one of the great defensive big men in the league for the next decade. He reminds Dil of a young 2.0 Serge Ibaka.
4. Tom Burleson 7'2'' 233 26 B C- C- A B C Warriors
- Burleson is a solid player. If I'm making a championship run I don't want him starting but I would love to have him as a 6th man. He won't win you any games but he's a solid player.
5. Kobe Bogues 6'11'' 298 31 C C- C A- A- C Thunder
- He won't shoot, he'll rebound, and he'll block shots. A good defensive big man. And he's huge. Unfortunately he's already 31 and I don't see anyone pumping any points into him to get that defense to A.
Power Forward:
1. Tom Barker 6'11'' 225 23 B- A- C- A- A- A Bulls
- Tom has a had rough few season as he has been very openly shopped to the entire league and his GM Bruns drafted and signed four post players in the offseason. He's just a kid and he has not handled the criticisms well. His numbers don't match his grades but we've seen this 100 times in tmbsl. Rumors are swirling that he can't wait to get out of Chicago to test the open market. I like Tom. I think he needs a few more years to develop and some points into his Inside Scoring. He's only 23 and he still has A potential. He could be a steal this FA.
2. Sidney Wicks 6'9'' 225 29 A- D+ C B B+ C Mavericks
- Mr. Consistent for Soup. He's always going to give you 18/9 with solid percentages. He's another guy who won't win you any games but he's certainly a very nice piece to the puzzle. It will be interesting to see what type of deal he gets this offseason.
3. Sam Lacey 6'10'' 235 30 B- C C+ A B B Pacers
- Lacey is another consistent player. He'll give you 16/10/3.5/2 at 45%. I like Lacey a lot. He doesn't have any weaknesses. Wouldn't mind him as a Rocket.
4. Mike Green 6'10'' 200 27 B C- C- A B- C Clippers
- Green is a solid player. He'll give you a good amount of blocks but not many rebounds or points.
5. Harvey Catchings 6'10'' 218 27 C+ C- D A B C Rockets
- Catchings is a lot like Green. Great defender but that's about it. He's been a very good third big for me for the past three seasons.
Small Forward:
1. Julius Erving 6'6'' 200 28 A- A B- A+ B B Bucks
- The best player in the possible FA pool this year. Dr. J has godlike grades and production. Guy is a double double machine from the Sf position and can be just as good at SG. Last season he averaged 32/10/5/1.6/1 while sharing the load with Truck for a majority of the season. Obviously this guy is a full max player. Trofie will and should be crushed if he can't reel him back in.
2. George Gervin 6'7'' 195 26 B+ A B- A C B Jazz
- The second best player in the possible FA pool. Gervin is obviously a major beast. One of the best scorers in the league. He's a legitimate #1 guy on a title team. As Ian would put it, "he's a finals MVP caliber player". He's amazingly only 26 and can easily play out an entire full max contract without any drop off. Much like trofie and J, 2poor needs to have Gervin back.
3. Bobby Jones 6'9'' 215 26 B A- C A+ B+ A Thunder
- I like Bobby a lot. Great grades and production. He gives you a little bit of everything. There's no holes in his game and he is a lock down defender. He still has A potential, which at this point probably doesn't mean much, but it's something. I would love to see some points thrown into him.
4. Larry Kenon 6'9'' 215 25 A- C C A A- B Mavericks
- This dude is a beast. 25/10 at close to 50% with A defense. He's only 25 years old with B potential. He has a very bright future ahead of him especially if he can get the infamous C to C+ outside bump. This could be another full max player.
5. Leon Douglas 6'10'' 230 24 B- A- C- A B+ A Pistons
- The Tom Barker syndrome. Great grades, poor production. Still, he's only 24 and he still has A potential. If he can get his inside up to B or B+ he would be scary. Hopefully he signs with a team that will commit to pumping points into him. I have high hopes for this man.
HM: Mickey Johnson 6'10'' 190 26 A- C C A- B+ C Clippers
Shooting Guard:
1. Paul Westphal 6'4'' 195 27 B A A A C- B Pistons
- I love Paul Westphal. Those grades and production are insane. I believe these are the same grades that Norm Nixon had in 2.0 for a while. Hits close to home. Westphal is a legit #1 guy. Obviously a full max player. Again, if someone commits to pumping points into him he could be an MVP guy.
2. Jamaal Wilkes 6'6'' 190 25 B- A- B A C+ B Pacers
- Jamaal is a very good player. His numbers are a little surprising to me, 29 PPG at only B- A- but it's nothing compared to Foots Walker. Production beats grades every time. Wilkes is another guy who has no weakness and give you a little bit of everything. I love the 8+ RPG as a SG. That's Billy Knight status. Another full max guy.
3. Adrian Dantley 6'5'' 213 22 B A B- A- C+ B Thunder
- Dantley will be a very valuable piece for someone this offseason. Those grades at that age is scary. Dantley will be maxed and it will be worth it.
4. Lionel Hollins 6'3'' 185 25 C+ A- A- A D+ A Cavaliers
- I love Hollins' versatility. He can be an all-star player at SG or PG. He can give 23/9 at PG or size up and lock down the opposing SG. He's young and still has A potential. Great coach as well. Grit grind.
5. Rick Barry 6'7'' 205 34 B+ A- A- A+ C C Jazz
- Barry is obviously a better player than a few guys ahead of him on this list but that age. He'll be 35 this offseason. I think he can still give you two great years at max level but would you take two years of Barry over 6 years of Dantley? I don't think I would. Anyways, dude is a beast and already has one title under his belt. His grades are ridiculously ideal. His production isn't too shabby either.
HM: Bob Dandridge 6'6'' 195 30 B A- B- B C C Warriors
HM: Ricky Sobers 6'3'' 198 25 B- A A- B C- C Trailblazers
HM: Sonny Parker 6'6'' 210 23 B- B C A C B Clippers
Point Guard:
1. Brian Winters 6'4'' 185 26 C A A- A- C- B Pistons
- Last season's finals MVP. But is he a finals MVP caliber player? Ask Ian. Either way he's the best PG available. He has good size and he's only 26. Tyler has his entire core expiring. While Winters isn't the best of them he is still a vital piece.
2. Doug Collins 6'6'' 185 27 C+ A- A- A- D+ B Bulls
- Collins is close to a 20/10 guy. Great size and great production. It will be interesting to see what kind of a contract he'll get. His 20/10 season was with a tanking 6ers team, can he live up to his own production from last season?
3. Slick Watts 6'1'' 175 27 C+ B A+ A+ D+ B Thunder
- Man this guy is disappointing. Where is the production? I still have hope. He should have way more steals and assists. I guess he has all the physical tools and a low skill level.
4. Lucius Allen 6'2'' 175 31 C+ A- A A- C- C Timberwolves
- Lucius is a very solid PG. 10/10 every season. He won't shoot a lot and he'll get his scorers the ball. He doesn't really have any weakness. Solid percentages, good defense. This offseason might be his last chance to get a decent contract.
5. Nate Archibald PG 6'1'' 160 30 C+ A B A D C Jazz
- Big Nate, he would be much better if he could get those handles up. He would be a great combo guard if he wasn't 160 lbs. Nate is a solid 6th man.
