Apologies to Face-in for jacking your article, but I figured if you hadn't done it by day 90 then you wouldn't mind. As with the other versions, this rookie ladder is an assessment based only on current production.
1. Kevin McHale PF 23 6'10'' 255 B+ C C- A- A- B
The runaway favorite for Rookie of the Year, although his FG% has dipped a bit over recent sims. Still, serviceable defense, good rebounding and solid scoring give McHale top honors thusfar.
2. Wes Matthews PG 21 6'1'' 190 B A- B B C- B
The centerpiece of a midseason trade, Wes has performed well since taking over a starting spot. Still, like most of the new crop of PGs, he needs to trim his TOs a bit.
3. Andrew Toney SG 23 6'3'' 195 B B C C+ C- B
Looks like he's going to grow into a great scoring wing, and he doesn't appear to have Grant Hill-level turnovers. Good news for Chicago fans.
4. Mike Gminski PF 21 6'11'' 270 A- C+ C- B+ B- A
Mike doesn't have the minutes of others in this class, but I like what I see from the big guy. His FT% is sterling and he's drawn a ton of them considering he's only playing 13 minutes a game.
5. Mike Woodson SG 22 6'5'' 200 B- B C B C- A
There are a ton of wings with similar stats in this class. I'm putting Woodson ahead of others because his turnovers aren't high and he does some other things well (steals, rebounds, etc.)
6. Darrell Griffith SG 22 6'4'' 190 B- B- C- A- C- A
Griffith scores slightly more than his teammate Toney, but on worse percentages. Still, a lot to like on the wing in Chicago.
7. Saleh Winabi PF 19 6'11'' 215 B- C- C B B+ A
Look past the gross FG% and appreciate Saleh's strong block totals and low turnovers. His rebounding and FT% are solid too.
8. Hawkeye Whitney SG 23 6'5'' 235 B C C+ B C A
Back to back Heat players. Hawkeye looks like a great find in the 2nd round, and I could just as easily have put him at #5 or 6 and been happy.
9. Larry Smith C 23 6'8'' 275 C+ D+ C- B+ B+ B
Larry probably shoots a little too much and his FT% is bad, but he's swatting almost 2 shots a game in 16 minutes, so he's already an elite shotblocking big. Should be at worst a great third big man for the Thunder.
10. Ronnie Mo Lester PG 22 6'2'' 185 C+ B+ B+ C D+ A
Free the Mo Lester! Ronnie should be getting a lot more minutes for a Chicago team that doesn't own its own pick this year. I know the sample size is small, but the kid looks like he's got some game. Put him in, coach!
