10. after Mortaging the future I'm sure JHB would like to be higher but they check in at #10. Shelton, Dantley , and jones are solid trio all do everything good , but nothing spectacular. At about 65 ppg and average shooting at 45.5 % they rely on other things to get them going. The trio sits at 32 boards per game with solid defensive grades sitting at A, A+ , A-. This team isn't elite in the West but they are a formidable trio
9. The nets are loaded in the Frontcourt and young. The Trio of Moses, Neon , and Campy are legit down low and could turn any series. They are the worst trio offensively imo at 63 points and 45.5% shooting, but they are the best on the boards getting 34 per game. They get blocks but are average defensively as a group. This trio however will just get better. Which sucks.
8. Walton, Issel, and Sobers come in at #8 on the trio list. Combining for 74 points and 30 boards they are a very formidable trio. Shooting about 48% . Defensively they lack a bit in a couple spots. Walton is an elite A+, but Isell is a B+, and sobers is a B. If they get hot they could turn some heads in the playoffs but I'm not seeing them as a truly elite squad yet.
7. Due to some bad luck and bad gm moves by certain people the bucks have failed to truly add a 3rd star. If this article were about best duo's they would be up there. However with kareem , Dr J, and skinner they are a pretty rounded group. It's hard to fully understand where this trio will be with the recent addition of Skinner but if you go off his past numbers it should be solid. They will sit at 70 points, while shooting over 48%. They will grab boards at a good rate 28 per game. They might be the best defensive trio in the league sitting at A+, A+ , A.
6. They could honestly be much higher on the list as well. With Williamson, Lucas , and Paultz they have a nice positional balance. At nearly 70 points per game and terrific shooting at 48.5 %. Two of the trio are newcomers on the squad and in the East. Hornets made a nice move grabbing Lucas when the Bucks nearly had him, and they struck it rich landing Williamson from dipshit Gm Ankly who after 2.0 looked like an elite Gm, but now he couldn't manage a lemonade stand. Defensively they lack a bit sitting at A, B+ , A- but they should be fine as there are only a couple dominant Sf's and Sg's in the East.
5. Another team that will be tough to gauge after the last trade, but they now have the best frontcourt on paper. With Elmore, McAdoo , and truck. They will have the best rebounding trio netting them nearly 34 boards a game. They will get their points as well; Nearly 80 points combined. But they don't shoot the ball as well as most teams. McAdoo is really struggling this year and Elmore is shooting above his past productivity and grades. Defensively they are good , but not great as a trio. This team will give teams in the West trouble with their size though.
4. It's hard to gauge the celtics big three as one of them has been MIA all year due to injury. However they are still top 5. Lanier , Adams, and Free are very dynamic as they all play the positions well. They should be at about 75 ppg when free get's healthy. Be at approximately 27 boards and 18 assists. And they all are above average on D. Lanier with the A+, Adams with the A, and Free with the A-. This team might not be the deepest in the East but they have the best trio of players in the conference.
3. The clippers have probably the most well rounded big 3, thanks to magic johnson. The big three in LA consist of Gilmore, Magic, and Pistol. Magic and Pistol all do everything well, but what's holding them back currently is Gilmore's shooting %. Which is a bit down from where it usually is and should be. They combine for 74 points and 29 boards. While dishing out 19 assists and racking up over 6 blocks. The defensive grades are good for a couple of them but Pistol holds them back on that front, and it will hurt the clippers when they play a dominant backcourt like the Jazz.
2. The jazz could honestly be #1 on this list but the position's are quite as dynamic as the mavs. The big 3 in utah Obviously consist of Gervin and barry. But then you could either include Johnson or buse. I went with Buse. The three combine for 86 points , but they shoot almost at an insane 50% clip thanks to Gervin. They all move the ball well and rack up assists. The defensive Grades are their as well with an A , A+ , A. This Jazz team is favorite in the West and I'm not sure anyone can take them down in the playoffs.
1. The mavericks get the #1 spot on the Trio list. It's hard to tell how effective they will all be together with such a small sample size , but do to sheer talent they get it. Hayes, Thompson, and Kenon. They Combine for almost 90 points per game, Grab 27 reb's , and shoot Roughly 48% combined. Each have tremendous Defensive ratings as well. I don't think the Mavs are the favorite in the West, but it's tough to tell because at the Top, the conference is stacked.
