I'll run it OG then.
Civ Roles: Cop Bodyguard Veteran Vigilante The rest vanilla
Mafia Roles: Silencer Godfather generic mafioso
Sign up and I'll run it. Aiming for starting Wednesday night.

Sorry to be a party pooper. If i were running a game I'd probably rather set up a theme game too, it's a lot more fun to make/assign those roles.

I don't know, nothing seemed terrible about the Harry Potter one either on a read through. 18/26 roles are standard mafia roles. 2/8 of the others are vanilla roles that change factions when they're the last one left (nothing confusing there, if they're last they automatically change sides) 2/8 survive death at night once (not confusing, they just survive the first attempt on their life at night) 2/8 are maf roles that would kill an alert vet, bg, or omar while also dying (not confusing) 1/8 is omar (non standard role but straightforward) 1/8 is a novelty role that will start the game dead and be someone who isn't actually playing

Also, could we throw these two roles in? I want to use them in my game but kinda wanna see how they work first, plus they are a lot of fun I think and I think I mentioned all the possible scenarios for them:

I think we have played with a lookput variant once or twice. I like them both.

Playing the game with a Wallace character just seems like you looking for an opportunity to be a dick to someone.

It's hard to know if there is clarification needed until you have a role and are in a game. And then there are cases where you don't even think you need clarification because you carefully read the OP multiple times and as the OP reads, the roles are clear. But then you die anyway in a method that directly contradicts what the OP said. So I didn't even think to ask for clarification. Honestly that LOTR post just looks like it's asking for confusion. Out unless it's a standard game. There was a ton of confusion the first time we had a standard game with many roles too, though, and that was only game 12. Delap's rules look pretty legit to me (even though Sam should clearly be the BG).

OK. When I get back to my computer I'll tally those that are in for classic game and those who are in for classic or LOTR. If we get 12 for LOTR, we do that. If we don't, I'll run a classic game starting late tomorrow.
Verily, let it be so.

Im in for whatever. But there needs to be a vanilla civs, because if everyone has a role then its really slanted in favor of the town as "roles are revealed".

Didn't you win? he was role blocking you because he thought "disarming" you meant you couldn't "cast a spell" logically, i agree with 20s

oh yeah, so I was role blocked but not kill blocked. I think that caused some confusion last game w/ the star wars theme as well. The logic was applied consistently, whether it makes sense to you or not.

Also, you can mark me as a participant if we do the LOTR one. But I would prefer a standard game.

But there needs to be a vanilla civs, because if everyone has a role then its really slanted in favor of the town as "roles are revealed". i think canes made a good point on The Lost Pod which is that if there are more roles than players the mafia can claim to have X role without it being guaranteed that a town can say "well no, I'M X role." it's also not necessarily the case that the town will believe the first person to claim a role even if there is a conflict. and with framers, roleblockers, and silencers, this makes it even easier for the mafia to act in these situations. i think people are getting too hung up on role reveals. there are a lot of permutations in-game we can still go through there. i personally prefer games where there are no roles at all, but everyone having a role can work, especially when there's a surplus.

The issue is there are certain actions those roles can have, so if I say Im X role then at somepoint I would have to utilize that power. Especially when a lot of roles have powers where the admin needs to be involved. Such as role x can "reveal the true identify of a player", a mafia member couldnt claim that role with any credibility.
