I'm making a conscious effort to lose weight for the first time in a couple years, figured if anyone is in the same boat we could use this thread to share ideas on workouts, diet, stuff that's working for us. If no one else is in this same boat, disregard the thread.

Hop on the bandwagon, don't put off starting like I have for way too long.

I lost a fair amount of weight over the last year. Still working on the last 15.
Here is my advice.
Start with obtainable (and sustainable) goals for exercise and more aggressive goals for dieting. I found dieting easier to do (it's passive to not eat more).
Be meticulous about journaling your diet and use a food scale.

I need to lose a few. Currently at 182 which is about 15 pounds heavier than my college weight. Either I can lose the weight or actually start lifting to shift it towards muscle.
Problem is that I have not lifted since high school football workouts. I am so lost in a gym. I actually wasted about $700 on a gym membership last year that I used maybe 3-4 times a month to go play basketball.
I'm pretty worthless.

Yeah I need to be a part of this... Gym memberships are no good because the gyms in my area are not open 24 hours and I don't get up early in the AM. So thinking about getting a treadmill or something... If people have suggestions on what is body friendly and well built let me know. Druce i'm on this ride with you brother. My goal is to drop 35 pounds.

Like Cubes says, the only plan that works is the one you stick to.
If you aren't exercising at all right now, start slooooooow. Walk, don't run. If it hurts, stop. The worst thing you can do is injure yourself and put yourself even further in the hole.
Food wise you could do the scale routine but my advice is to see all your portions. Never eat out of a bag, pour an amount onto a plate. Take smaller bites, chew more thoroughly. Drink more water, never drink calories (alcohol can be an exception but go straight instead of mixed). If you aren't taking a multivitamin supplement already, start. If you aren't getting regular physicals, start.
No matter which way you go, overhauling your diet and adding an exercise regimen is going to cost you time every day. Make your peace with that now. In a couple weeks it'll be habitual and you won't even notice any more.
No matter which way you go, you'll succeed in time. Keep working! You can do it!

Hello. I was 370 this time last year, now I'm at 300. Weight loss has mostly stopped over the last two months. I need new motivation.

I should think anything with adjustable resistance would be fine.

The ultimate motivation because I had basically stopped playing video games due to a shortage of time.

I workout with a trainer 3 times a week. We do heavy lifting every now and then and then quick supersets with little or no rest between. Also do about 20-30mins of cardio on workout days and try to go at least once more in between to move around my lactic acid.
Also taking supplements as of early April.

I've heard/read the exact opposite about treadmill vs. elliptical I can only tell you what my knees told me, and it makes sense if you think about it. There's no concussive impact on an elliptical the way there is with a treadmill or road running. There is strain put on the knee from exertion, of course, but you can't exercise without strain.

What kind of cardio? etc. Signed up at youfit for 12 personal training sessions per month. The first 2 months my cardio was 20ish minutes on a Arc trainer which is basically a fucking leg workout that made me sweat more than Glen Davis jogging up and down a court. When I first started all we mainly focused on was body weight squats and core work. My training sessions are 30 minutes with minimal breaks to keep the heart rate elevated. The first 2 weeks we did core for about 20 minutes of those workouts and the. Would do walking lunges and free weight squats. One day a week we would do back and upper body. After that I cool down on an elliptical for about 10-15 minutes with moderate resistance usually getting 1.25-1.5 miles done. We just finished up an 8 week boot camp that was fucking miserable

The best calorie burning workouts are the best at getting you hurt. Treadmill isn't too bad, but I wouldn't buy one until you know how your body will react. Try it and see.

I think I need to drop alcohol if I want to break my plateau. I went from 260 to 200 and now I am between 202 and 207 depending on whether it is post exercise and how long it's been since I shat.

Guess i will have to follow this thread. I have been up and down but mostly up in weight since my baseball days have ended. I guess I didnt realize how much I worked out and exercised before and that controlled my shit eating habits. Now after probably 6-8 years of not really caring or paying attention I am def the heaviest I have ever been. Didnt think I would ever hit the 300 mark, wrong again.
I can lose the weight pretty easily and quick but my problem is always the motivation factor. I get tired from work or something and grab fast food and then have some drinks and then its 11pm and I don't feel like working out which turns into a spiral.
Think Ive hit my wall of being a fat ass and not caring anymore and am going to do as much as I can to change things which is easy to type and hard as fuck to do.Think Ill use you guys and this thread along with the TMB biggest loser to try and keep me in check.
Kudos mj and the others that have already started this process, cool to read some of your stuff.

The biggest thing motivation wise for me has been wanting it for myself. I've been pretty content with life, but now that I'm getting married in less than a year I don't want to look how I look now for that. I don't want my future kids to know me as this sloppy mess of an individual. That usually helps me when I don't want to get out of bed.

i seem to have a habit of keeping to my diet most of the day but at some point i'll go eat about 1500 calories in 3 minutes. complete waste of a day and food.
